Ip timming mark questions Engine bump

Hello Gents
I am replacing the gaskets under my hydraulic head and need to bump the engine to get the timming marks lined up. HOW IN THE HECK DO YOU DO THAT. with a gas engine I would take out the spark plugs and turn via a wrench on the fan pulley bolts or something like that. When I to to bump with the starter button it is either just behind the mark or just in front but never right on.
Any tricks?

Place the transmission in gear, transfer in neutral and turn the drive shaft between the transmission and transfer by hand (using a tool for leverage). This is best done with two people.

Be sure to have the engine shutoff cable pulled out, before turning over the engine!

I used a 3/8'' extension 8 or 10 inches long on a 1/2'' breaker bar. The extension slipped between the bolts on the universal nicely, and the breaker bar was easy to turn.

I have the tranny in gear tried 1st gear and 5th transfer in nutral parking brake on and I for the life of me cant turn the F$%^$ng shaft for the transfer to be in Nutral I have the high low range lever between high and low what am I doing wrong.

The right gear

5th gear is your best bet, and transfer in N is between high and low... Chomp down a can of spinach and try harder!!

Hello I figured that 5th gear would have the least resistance. How much force is req to turn the shaft I guess I was misled by the earlier post that it turned easily. I guess I have to overcome the compression in the motor. I have a 24" angle jaw pipe wrench I can put on there that should do it.
