Well after lurking around SS and gaining some "know-how" I finally decided to buy a truck

I bought a deuce from frodo last night over in louisiana...about a 3hr drive one way so not bad at all. I ended up getting home around 230am this morning (I really wanted to drive in the 80* night air instead of the 100*+ day air).
We bled the brakes and aired up the tires before heading back to nacogdoches, tx.
On the way home she drove really well, I was running between 50-53 and around 2000-2300rpm assuming the gauges were correct...but you know what they say about assuming

I dont have any major plans for the truck right now except paint (I want to repaint desert tan or camo) and a pto winch so I can wheel her.

Here are some pictures because we all know what they say: pics or it didnt happen!

My 2 trucks:

Damn, after all that drive, it still has the cat chit on the rear tire :)

Damn nice looking ride if I do say so myself. Glad you got home ok.

And you know they need more pics than that....

Nice truck.

I'm almost in the same boat as you. I've been lurking on here and gaining knowledge on the deuce. I bought one from GL last week, currently waiting onmy EUC. Can't wait to get mine

!!! that is exactly what I Want to do... I dont have the money/need to invest in a spray gun. I will try and locate the thread...
Did you sand the whole truck before painting or how did you handle that? This is going to sound super lazy but I really dont want to go over every square inch of my truck w/a piece of sand paper if I can avoid it.

thread found:

Now thats funny right there. lol :-D
Chris I went to harbor fright and bought me a little 14 doller palm sander and went to work , it did not take long at all , when I was done doing that , I went back and did it again with sand paper but this time i did it by hand . All i wanted to do was knock down the rough stuff and have something for the fresh paint to adhere to .The bed did not require to much time .My truck was pretty clean as far as a deuce goes minor rust here and there.I am still not done with it the inside is getting a full tear down and freash paint. just take your time on it if you go a solid color it should be cake .The camo does takes some time though.:-D just remember this its a deuce it not meant to be pretty ,its going to have runs in the paint its going to be scratched up . nice paint is for show cars . not for big mean nasty green iron beast .

thanks!! so how detailed did you take your paint job? Did you sand/paint the axles/frame/running gear/engine bay and all that stuff or just the major outside components? I just want to tackle the major outside parts for now...body, bed, wheels etc

Also since you just roughed it up did you have to use a primer? (if you cant tell I dont use a lot of paints...especially to paint vehicles)

I still have to do the under neither of the truck .My axles will be getting repainted but the underside of the cab and bed will be getting a diffrent treatment sound and heat deading material .I did start on the motor but it wont take much the motor is pretty new .I have a lot planned for the truck .But I am taking my time .The wheels did get a little bit of paint but no much. The only part I used primer on was where I took it down to bare metal due to surface rust . Having a military vehicle was allways a dream of mine when I was little , my Father served in the Army, My uncle served in nam in the Marine Core as a Huey pilot, my other uncle served in the Air Force .My wife father served in the Army as so his two brothers One the Marine Core the Other the army . I tryed to get in after high school but I could not pass the math part of the test . having this Deuce is a Tribute to them ,and all who serve and who have served . Thats one reason of many why I am just fixing her up slowly . I was luckey to get a truck that was allready in great shape .Your truck is in good shape also from what I can see .Just take your time on her and you will be happy with the outcome . I plan on re-painting it when I have a big enough shop to completly take it down to matal .Right now the rattlecans will have to do . I do suggest you use the rapco paint it goes on real nice .
sorry for th novel
Bryan
