replace split rim with bead seat?

I am looking at making custom rims by adding 3 inches from other ones to make the split rims 10" wide. all of the rims that I have seen made on this website reuse the split ring on the outside of the dish as the stock wheels do. Would it be possible to use the backside of the donor wheel with the bead to eliminate the split ring and use tire spoons to mount and dismount the tires and not deal with the widow makers at all?
thanks in advance.:p

making a wheel that way wouldn't be any harder than with a ring, but it would be nearly impossible to mount a tire

I am not quite sure what you are describing but, ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMEONE IS GONNA GET KILLED ALTERING RIMS WITHOUT THE PROPER ENGINEERING BACKGROUND TO DESIGN THEM PROPERLY!!! OR FAULTY WORKMANSHIP!

Stretching the stock rims doesn't alter the original rims integrity really, it just moves the edge out. Not really a problem with tubes and good welding.

eldgenb,
If your using tubeless tires, are you a good welder? You need to have leak proof welds to keep air in the tires. From what I remember helping our truck driver change tires. There is a side you start the tubeless tire on, lube up the bead jamb it down then beat the tire the rest of the way around with a big rubber shot hammer. Then the other bead same way with some prying pounding. If your using tube tires with liners, I don't think you can pound and pry them on.
Like Golden Eagle mentioned, don't get yourself killed. Tires can be killers!

no matter what method or how much soap and patience; there simply is no way you could stretch a tire's bead (without ruining it), to get it slip over the rim flange or lip, if the wheel rim doesn't have a well. (Split ring wheels normally don't....)
What can (and has) been done successfully is building 2piece tubeless bolt-together wheels out of stock wheels, one complete + the "backside" of a second one.

those are beautiful but I think a little outside of my tooling ability, I do not have access to a cnc or anything like that, a plasma cutter and a mig welder is my expertise. I am a very good welder, the only problem is my garage will not hold bigger machines that I need. Thanks for the advise, I think I will be stuck with the split ring till I can afford some 5 ton combatt rims and modify those with the six lug.
