Hello Gents
I am trying to get info on the correct radio and mount for an M35A2 I have been told that an RT524 is what I am needing but what mount do I get I bought a mount off E-bay for a RT 524 but it is way to small for the hole pattern on the floor for the Deuce so.... Does anyone have pics of there radios mounted and un mounted with some mod or part no for the radio mounting base, radio. and ant.
Thanks Jerry

I do not, however, someone once offered a steel plate assy that would mount on the center 'hump' between two "driver" seats, so that the radio faces upwards and the driver could get at it. This is not a military authorization, but it is convenient. Info might exist on oldsteelsoldiers.

The VRC-12 is a radio system including an RT246 and or RT524 and other items, and can be put in an M35. There are manuals on this, and most have VRC-12 in the titles.

The RT246 is like the RT524 and fits the same mount but can use a remote channel selector box.

question: how will you change channels?

answer 1: On the RT524 you will get down on the floor because the radio is under the passenger seat.

answer 2: you will use the proper military remote control box with an RT246 and select one of ten channels that you previously progeammed into the electromechanical brain of the RT246.

"For installation instructions for a specific AN/VRC-12 series radio set in a particular wheeled vehicle, refer to a corresponding 2300 series TM."

so that would be TM 23nn-nnn-nn, you might have to search to find the one for the M35.

Here's a scanned manual from 1966 covering installation of the RT-524 (and related radios) in the deuce. Note that this manual specifies mounting of the radio on one of the troop seats, not in the cab.

TM 11-2300-353-15-2

I don't know if I have anything which covers in-cab mounting, but I'll look around and then post here if I find something.

Ok, I do have a manual or two from LOGSA covering installation of the newer (and MUCH more expensive) SINCGARS radios under the passenger seats of the deuce. I note that the manual specifies drilling new holes for installation of the mount. I don't recall whether the SINCGARS mount has identical mounting hole locations to the MT-1024 mount that the RT-524/RT-246 uses, but they're about the same size.

If you really don't want to drill new holes, you might consider attaching your mount to a piece of plywood, and then bolting that plywood to the cab floor using the existing bolt holes. You should probably add a ground strap in that case to ensure that the mount is properly grounded to the vehicle chassis.

Here's one of the SINCGARS installation manuals which might prove helpful, even if you're installing an older RT-524/RT-246:

The SINCGARS and MT1029 (not 1024) do mount up identically. There should be no need to redrill holes.

So by what mr opcom stated, i take it that a verticle face up mounting position IS acceptable. Even though TM 11-5820-401-10-2 states-do not mount the radio on its back due to a negative effect on the fan. My immediate question after reading that was A) whats the back(duh its where the fan is) and B) would a verticle mounting position be acceptable provided the fan was unobstructed.
