I have some 20" runflat beadlocks I want to install in 16R20 tires. Has anyone ever done this? It looks a little imtimidating and reverse childberth comes to mind. :-(

Does anyone know if Red River Army Depot, Oklahoma National Guard, Fort Riley, or Fort Sill handle these types of inserts? I think they are being used on the MRAP.

runflat

I had a CG V300 that had these in the tires. They are dangerous and don't play well with others.

I ended up taking it to the NG at Ellington Field with a case of beer and a pizza. They used an air powered ratchet strap and pulled it into an 8 then stuck it in the tire and released the strap.

A regular ratchet strap will not work because you have no room for the stroke needed to release the strap.

Their strap was 5"+ wide...

I can tell you from building my old M725 and putting 11.00x16 LAV tires on them, that taking the runflats OUT is a PITA. Putting them back in must be similar. Prepare to cuss a lot and end up with little hair when you're done.

Why do you feel the need to install runflats? Do you do a lot of driving over nails and debris? Get shot at a lot? These runflats will add a pile of rolling resistance to your tire weight, is it worth it?

Yeah, this is a dreaded project. These are going on wildland fire trucks. Having an deadlined truck due to tire failure can lead to big problems in wildfire environment. Not as bad as being shot at, but chaotic and dangerous nonetheless. Beadlocks help, but runflats might be even better.
