160 miles or so, if you are driving to Tonganoxie, you will drive right by Salina on Interstate 70. If you let me know I would be glad to drive up there. Maybe we could get a mini rally going.... I doubt you are coming down in your M1008 though.

Ouch. That skeletal picture brings back memories. My Bear was 3 or 4 years old when I found him starving. 37lbs. The Doc said he was wasting and didn't have much time left. 9 years later, I wake up in the middle of the night to find an 80 lb. Shepherd snoring on top of me. I always tell him, "Pal, your life has changed..." He goes right on snoring...
Nothing quite like the deep breath and exhale in your ear while trying to sleep routine.... or the Shepherd squeak in the middle of the night when he wants to go out and check for rabbits. Buddy has the shortest coat, but he is the one that gets out of bed because he gets too hot.

We were in the same boat. He had lost most of his coat and had a respiratory infection. Sometimes he would get to coughing and sound like he was losing a lung. He was so weak then, my vet doubted he would recover. Great! I drove 16 hours to save a dog that is going to die anyway? Within a couple of weeks of getting home the medication got him on top of the infection and he recovered quickly physically. It took two years to gain weight and for his coat to fill in though. He is kind of like me, everytime we go to the vet, we weigh a little more. Only he still looks young and fit. ;-) I hope he lives a long life, he is kind of my favorite child, it will hurt when I lose any of them, but that one is going to be especially tough.

Great to hear your pal's recovery. I predict he'll live a long life indeed. Like I say, Bear's 13 now, 1/2 blind and still acts like a puppy. His quailty of life is high, he doesn't know his limitations and I'm going to enjoy him as long as I can...

I like the new M1009,, looks like you are bit luckier than I,,, so far------ I just picked one up this week from GL... Drove off the lot, and made it about 5 blocks before i lost power and stalled out... Started back up, limped into a gas station, and died again.... Checked fuel shut-off solenoid (showed ~ 11volts,, and i could hear it click),,, replaced fuel filter,, purged the fuel system of air,, and still didn't want to stay running... I even tried fueling it from a separate fuel reservoir (with fresh fresh/clean fuel) direct into the IP,,, didn't help.... It was about 40 degrees outside,, and I had it running for at least 15 minutes before it stalled,,, so i don't believe temperate/g-plugs would be the issue... Faulty injectors possible.....? When i loosened the injectors during the bleeding process,, they all seemed to be releasing fuel, so i assumed they were functioning well enough to at least keep the truck running....?

Ideas....? IP rebuild......?

Also,,, the odometer shows 20k,,, and the last maintenance records that CARNAC provided showed 18k........ The truck looks like its seen more than 20k..... Should i assume this truck has 120k or 220k.......? Anybody know how to tell if the odometer has rolled over....? If this truck has more than 20k,,, seems like GL may have provide false information (they actually posted it on the auction website with 20k)...

As always, any assistance is appreciated.

91W35--- congrats on the new ride, thanks for the story,, and **** of a good looking dog.

Mine either has a lift pump issue or a leaking seal in the Injection pump. It will run great all day, fire right up. Let it sit overnight though and it is a bear to start. I was hoping for something simple like a leaking return line, no such luck. I will replace the lift pump first, then have seals put in the IP if the issue does not clear up. I hate to mess with the IP as that thing runs super and is great on fuel mileage.

Sorry to hear about your luck.

I think you have to take the mileage with a grain of salt. I was hoping for a really low mileage (2625) Blazer, but the odometer swap has killed that idea. The rusty rocker panels tips me off too. It run and drives super, everything, other than the initial cold starting seems great.

Bud and Sir in leaner days, I love this photo....

Check for fuel leaks as well. The line from the tank to the primary lift pump is under vacuum and will not typically drip if there is a leak.

I've been battling a similar issue on my M1009, except it only happens when parked on an incline with the front higher than the rear. I changed my IP solenoids today and will know tomorrow if it helped any. I've already checked for leaks by pressurizing my fuel system, but haven't found any problems to fix. It is driving me crazy! My filter base is also brand new, so I know it is not a leaking filter base problem.

Good luck fixing yours.

I did not get my truck from GL, it shows 78000 on the odometer. I guess it's possible to have that many origonal miles but it doesn't bother me if it has 178000. It's hard to believe that anything from the 80's exept a garaged Corvette or grandmas car has under 100,000. I hope that some of you do have super low mileage trucks, but I believe the government wouldn't get rid of them until the odometer has rolled once. It doesn't take all that long for seals to dry up when a vehicle is sitting, so if the seals are atleast still holding when you purchase a gl truck than it must have been driven/started within a reasonable amount of time, hence forth it was getting miles, or atleast run time. I'm more concerned with run time than miles anyway, miles keep seals new and oiled and runtime does not. Quote: just my 2 cents........glad you got a truck!

Mine had not been started since February 24th. It could easily be dry
Jefferson City had 70 Blazers parked there in February. There are two left and they both have the rust package.

They had been assigned to the Month National Guard. I think the. Chevys are going out and Hummers are replacing them.

Well,,, I finally got mine home today!! Lavarok advised me to remove/clean/re-install the check-valve (where the return line enters the IP),, and it proved to be the solution!! Back on the road in minutes,, and cruised on home with no problems! Runs great now! :-D

I started my military career in the Marine Corps Reserves before augmenting to active duty, and if you do the math, it's really not hard to believe the mileage on the trucks coming out of ARNG units. The trucks are 20 years old, divided by say 50K miles is 2,500 mi/yr. divided by 12 months is roughly 210 miles/month. I know our Humvees got nowhere near that kind of driving time. Especially in HQ/SVC units. Most of the mileage was probably racked up once a year during their 2-week annual training exercises at off-site location. The rest of the time these vehicles sat in the motor pool unless someone was driving around town/base for a few days to get their MV operator's license.

I know my M1009 had the fluid change dates written in paint marker on the front and rear diffs, the tranny pan, the oil fill tube and the radiator. Don't know about every Army unit, but I know in the Corps, our Motor-T Sgt did his PMCS by the book every month whether the truck "needed" it or not.

Biggest concern for me isn't wear on the engine or drive train (other than rust-related damage), but rather for anything rubber or plastic that may have deteriorated while sitting. I'm in the process (may take a few years, right?) of replacing all of those sorts of components on the truck.

(BTW, my truck came out of Jeff City, too. HQ Co.)

Sweet tip! Thanks to both of you, I will try that tomorrow! Glen
Keep in mind, if your check valve is clogged it is most likely due to seals breaking down inside your pump. When I cleaned my clogged check valve, it only took two days before my IP was leaking out the weep hole.

Where is the weep hole on the IP located?
If i delay the IP rebuild,,, will it damage itself...? Or will it just run worse and worse,,, and finally not run at all...? If there is a potential for the pump to tear itself up (ie- metal on metal wear) once the seals go out,,, then i will rebuild it immediately; however, if it will only leak and run poorly, i will likely put it off for a while...

The weep hole is on the very bottom of the housing just before it bolts to the engine. Its location keeps fuel from entering your crankcase. Easiest way to check for leaks is to look in the valley under the IP pump.

As for the rest of your questions, I am not an expert on the pump itself so can't advise you there.
