I just bought my first MV (M35A2C) 5 weeks ago from a fellow SS member. Now I just bought a parts truck (M45A2 w/w) tonight from GSA. I know it has been said many times before but you guys are a really bad influence. ;-)

I have a very understanding wife but I better not push this too much. She doesn't want our yard to look like a motor pool or a junk yard.

I knew I would get you hooked. Congrats. And the price was right.

There were some good trucks in that sale. With a little better of a pic, I may be able to tell you a little more about the truck, more specifically what bed it had!

My wife said to tell all of you to quit encouraging me.

The main part I needed from this truck was the tandem axle / spring seat assembly. I found out the bearings in mine are shot and the spindle threads on one side are stripped. I hope they are good in this truck!

Here is the thread I posted about it

There are a few other small things I'm sure I will need off of this "parts" truck but overall my deuce is in really good shape. I would like to put the winch on my truck but I will probably try sell it to recover some of my expenses. Again I need to keep the cost of this hobby/disease in check to keep my wonderful wife happy.

It will be nice to know that if something breaks on my truck that I will probably already have a replacement part "in stock".

Maybe I should buy an M105 trailer and eventually bob this new truck. Someone please stop me now.

And so it begins.

Welcome to the addiction! This ought to be called MV`s Anonymous, it only gets worse from here on out......look at it this way, at least its a healthy addiction.

check, double check, and triple check your brakes......then check them some more. Change all fluids & filters, (esp. fuel system filters: total of 3), enjoy!

I feel your pain. I'm going to bid on a second deuce. The problem is that both are good and I won't want to get rid of either if I win the bidding. Fortunately I have a place to keep them. My problem is keeping my wife happy.

Shoot, If your truck needs some heavy work in the rear suspension, and you are considering a bob-job, I'd move directly in the direction of a trailer purchase!

Why repair it just to replace it? That's just madness!

Give that GSA purchase some lovin and flip it or part it out and you may still come out ahead. Are you bidding on trailers yet!!! lol

Actually it was the new "parts" truck I joked about bobbing not my dropside. I agree it would be way too much work to swap out the tandem axle/spring seats if I planned on bobbing it later.

I think the bobbed trucks look cool but I still like the original look better. I'll have to see about the future of the "parts" truck. Someone else mentioned turning the "parts" truck into a long wheel base tractor. That also has some appeal. I'm guessing the deuce 5th wheel parts are not real easy to find. So many options but then I might want to keep it and drive it. I wasn't supposed to start a collection.

Bad spring seat pivot assembly..I feel your pain.. heck I still feel my pain!
Thanks a lot  You just had to remind me how much fun it is going to be to do that job twice since I have to swap the parts between the 2 trucks. Soon I will be feeling your pain. At least it is for a good cause. :driver: "Cause I needed deuce" :cookoo:

My parts truck is home!

Well, I made it home with my parts truck today. This was my first recovery. First, I must give a huge thanks to SS members Warthog and mikew! Warthog let me borrow his tow bar and by the time I arrived at the pickup location he and mikew already had the tow bar attached to my parts truck and helped me get it hooked up to my deuce and steer it until we got it pulled around a corner.

I must admit I was a little nervous for my first road trip in my deuce (70 miles each way) and my first tow with a tow bar. Speaking of tow bars, that heavy duty non-adjustable medium tow bar is heavy! I'm glad I had help hooking it up because unhooking it and carrying it by myself when I got home was right at my limit. Yes, I may be sore tomorrow but it was worth it.

With the help from the great information on this site my first recovery went great. I loaded up my deuce with every tool, fluid, chains, straps, jacks, etc I could think of but thankfully didn't need many of them. I aired up the front tires as people here suggested and it tracked great except as expected on slick ground. There was still snow, slush, and mud on the ground at the place I picked up the truck and I had to stop and straighten the wheels at least 6 times before I got the truck to the pavement. I'm also glad I checked all of the lug nuts. More than half of them were loose.

Last but not least I must thank my wonderful and understanding wife! She had to help steer the parts truck when I got home so that I could back it into its new parking spot. Backing with a tow bar on soft ground is not a one person job. I even got to engage my front axle for the first time.

Now for the important part - pictures. The first picture is at the one stop on the way home and the second one is the truck in its new home. Oh by the way, the driver of the FedEx truck in the background came over to ask about the trucks. He said his dad drove a 6x6 in the military. He was really interested so I pointed him to this site and GL. I guess it was my turn to pass on the disease.
