She actually does look pretty good. Just a little surface rust here and there. A nice coat of primer and paint would make her shine right up. No idea about the holes in the side of the bed. Probably should have CARNAC run the VIN# so we can see what unit she was with. May shed some light on the application.

The holes in the side of the bed look to me like the bed frame rusted out, so it was cut out and replaced with pipe.

Along with the two brackets on the side , it looks like a place to store something. Some smaller diameter pipe inside the holes bent into an L shape would make a nice ladder rack.

Too evenly spaced for that I think.
Last I looked, the bed frame members went from the side to side, and were spaced evenly from the front to the back. Because the bed frame extends into the area above the wheels, it tends to get rusted out by salt.

Where do the pipe pieces go?

Congrats! on the new truck.
How did she run on the drive home?
Everything else looks like easy fixes.

Bummer I couldn't find the eating popcorn smiley,
cause I am ready to sit back and watch the show when the east coasters start chiming in tomorrow on the tubular holes.
