In Need Of Measurements On 1008

I need the diameter of the square tube in front the shakle is hooked to. I also need the size of the hole for the the pin that goes through it. I also need to know how far apart they are. On the measurement on how far apart they are I need it measured from outside to outside of the tube, I will do the math for the center of each tube. I am going to be towing the M1008 home I just won and I am building a tow bar. Thank you in advance for any help on this matter.

1.5" wide and 2" tall

The 3 i have seen are 1" pins. Apparently some out there are 3/4 according to some forums i have read.

I also need to know how far apart they are.
No idea, mine is adjustable.

Make it so that the legs will fold open and closed, this will give you a wide variety of options to use the towbar in the future. Just an idea...

Those will work? Will those feet work with any of the tow bars in the classified section?
'Not well' to the first question. Yes to the second.
These feet have the 3/4" hole for the shackle mount and if you have 1" pins (like i suspect)...they aint gonna fit unless you use a 3/4" pin some washers and will have a lot of slop.

A little piece of knowledge for ya, HMMWV's use a 3/4" pin on the shackle, all 3 CUCV's i have seen use a 1" pin on the shackle.

Tubes are 31.25" from outside to outside, 28.25" inside to inside. All should be 1" holes. Center of hole (from front) is 1.25"

check it

I have used it to tow 3 trucks a combined 5800 miles in the last month and it works wonderfully.
Total cost if you buy the materials will be about $150 and you need a welder, drill press and angle grinder to pull it off.
Very nice. I have every tool needed. The one thing is I am very OCD, anal, whatever you want to call it I am wondering to cleanup the look a little I wouldn't need to use all the angel where it hooks up would I if I used a heavier gauge steel would I? Aslo how far does that tube go into that C channel, and does it allow it to close all the way? At the V pointe is the bigger C channel or two pieces of angel welded together? I need to go back to work so I will PM you so we can talk about measurements and things like that.

No, the angle i had laying around. It is 3/16" angle and if it did not have the L profile to prevent buckling i would have felt the need to use something thicker, maybe 1/4" plate for the joints. Again, this was a quick slap together bar to get the job done and not fail, it is far from improvements or refinement but the basic design is solid, redundant, and easy to copy. As it is the 3/16" steel provides enough bearing surface for the pivot bolts, but not by a gigantic factor. I figure these joints will last 3 or 4 years then start to get loose based on what i pull and the conditions i pull in. Eventually i will replace the angle with something more suitable.

the front portion that looks like C is actually a piece of 3/8" angle iron and a strip of 3/8" plate welded on top to box the 2" square tube on 3 sides. the bar does not close completely nor does it open all the way to 180*, id say i have a range from 20* to 60* which is plenty for the scope of my tow bar and the materials i had on hand.
I'll PM you my number if you wanna chat, talking is easier than typing.

the pin (shackle) holes on my 1008 are 15/16 so take a drill bit and a cordless drill unless you get (2) 3/4 pins, (2) 7/8 pins and (2) 1" pins, that will cover all the bases and ensure an easy hook-up. Good Luck:-D
