So can anyone give any feedback on this Wisconsin mess, with bill 592. If this include's the civilian conversion trucks it's about banning a paint scheme and nothing else.....If it's safety they have better brake's so that's a bogus excuse.

One more reason to not move back to my native state of Wisconsin if that passes. The cold is bad enough up there, but do not mind the snow as long as it is not cold.

The department has indicated to us that they regularly receive applications for registration of non standard vehicles for on road use. Examples include, motorized scooters, Gators & Mules, lawn tractors, mini-bikes, go-karts, golf carts, imported race cars, mini-trucks and yes, motorized bar stools.

This is the category that MV's are lumped in with.

We know of no fatalities in Wisconsin involving privately owned HMV’s. There is no data to indicate increased rates of civilian collisions or injuries involving HMV’s and there is no public protest demanding that Historic Military Vehicles be prohibited.

I got these statements from a blog site while looking for the bill you mentioned, kind of surprising huh. This guy was asking to have mv's obtain a historical status....one that regulated how often a "collector" vehicle could be driven........I guess it's better than nothing:cry:

Try moving to Canada. MOT is trying to not allow anymore MV's to be registered. Instead of having to learn French, they would all be speakink antotzer language now. Talk about Cranal Rectosis! My member of Parliment is about to have a very uncomfortable day! Lt. Leschert...(C.F. Retreaded!)

This has been an ongoing problem with WIDOT and has been discussed in several threads here and on several other MV boards.

Basically WIDOT has cancelled all HMV titles/registrations because the vehicles 'do not meet DOT standards' because they do not have a FMVSS and are therefore 'not for on road use'.

This bill was introduced to allow the on road use of HMVs, although with the mileage/usage restrictions.

CUCVs would theoretically be included because they do not have the FMVSS sticker in the door jamb.

Well I had a good news/bad news morning. My State Rep's office called me to inform me that the civilian version of these vehicles were ok and since they were the same as the civilian vesions there was not a problem with them (and they did agree they are actually safer) Wish I would have checked this board first thing, because I see on the main board, that Undysworld posted that is not the case and some of the dealers are not being allowed to sell in WI. This is confusing as at least one of these has a good supply of both Dodge and Chevy's with "Clear WI titles" ................you found a nice one for 400$ good for you, a rust free body should be worth an easy 2500$, I stand by the statement that I would rather drive a 20mpg CUCV than a 40,000$ 13mpg SUV that's just me. Guess I'm not contributing enough to the road tax to be shuffled off to god know's what.

I doubt they would be coming to the south as they will all have rust issues.

When I moved to Texas from Wisconsin I took my car to a trans shop here and the mechanic new immediately the car was from the north by the amount of rust on the undercarriage. He was joking with me that it would cost more because of the rusted bolt, but it was really rusty under there.

Just out of curiousity how many numbers and letters does the CUCV vehicle identification number have? Is it the same amount as the civilian GM vehicles? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I remember something stated in our meetings with the Wdot that these vehicles would not be affected because they were built on the same line with their civilian counterparts and they were basically the same except for a few military add ons. I think that the old GM plant here in Janesville built a few of them. Just a thought.

They have 17 for example I copied this just now from a current auction:

1984 CHEVROLET MDL M1028 PICK UP TRUCK VIN 1GCHD34J7EF338236, ODOMETER INDICATES 6, 406 MILES,

Both my old M1009 and my M1008 have 17 digit VIN numbers the problem you run into (especially with insurance companies) is they cant find the VIN in their computer/software. This is because it was never owned by anyone besides the government (if you get them straight from gov auction) One might have the same issue if you managed to get a car striaght off the assembly line and waited 25 years to try to register it, my guess anyway.
