Ive heard of this and must admit Ive just pushed it to the back of my mind and not worried about it much. But now after reading about it, hopefully I'll remember it when I do my fluid changes this spring.

Thank you.

Edit: actually Im gonna go print it off right now and stick it inside my TM so I see it when the time comes.

I've torn down several Cummins engines that the liners were ate up from this. It is a very common problem in Cummins with wet sleaves.

Best way to prevent this is to add a water filter.

Is this an in line filter?

I pulled the cap on my expansion tank and found the coolant brown, I was trying to see what the antifreeze level was at but it was to brown to see.
I'm going to be draining flushing and refilling soon so since it's apart I'd like to add the filter.

I'll do a search to see what comes up.

Thanks
Chad

It's a filter that looks like an oil filter but it filters the coolant and also has additive in it that it releases slowly that treats the coolant. Do a search for "coolant filter" and I'm sure you'll get several hits.

Liner pitting is a problem with any wet sleeve engine
I've used "NAPA Kool" sca for years in my diesels coolant system even if the spec's don't call for it ( I even added it to my M-37's coolant), I just recently put a quart in my deuce. SCA's also help prevent cavitation burns which I think is what causes some of the holes (I've seen pic's of here) in the deuces oil coolant housing/cover.

its much easier to just mount a cooling system conditioner in the cooling system and change the coalescent once a year. most system are a pain to set the ph on a truck that does not run every day. To high is just as bad as to low , it can eat the seals and worse the brass out of water pumps etc.
A " CC" cooling system conditioner is cheep ins and under $40 to put in a cooling system.

Adapter # is CFB-5000 and a cc filter that will treat 7-16 gals is # BW5071

hope this helps..
