I'd like to upgrade my headlights to a more modern and brighter bulb/system

Has anyone made any headlight upgrades?

Are there any "kits" ?

I use the Hella H4 headlight with a 60/55 watt bulb.
The light is brighter but much more focused.
It is a E-code light so it is not exactly legal for road use but as long as you keep them aimed properly you should not have a problem using them.

Do your research and you will see there are few to choose from.

i had the Hellas on my suburban with the 4 light system and they were great !

and for the ones i posted above

200mm (6 in. x7 in.) rectangular clear. Hi/low beam. 60/55 watt. Conforms to SAE/DOT standards for street and highway use. H6054 replacement unit, with HB2 replaceable bulb.

I have the Cibie equivalent of the Hellas. Run 60/55 watters in them. I love 'em. I'd like to upgrade to the 100/80s but I'd have to put a relay and extra wiring in and probably won't go to the trouble.

Remember that the HB2 bulb is slightly different (in order to be DOT compliant) so I don't not know if the H4 bulb will plug into the same housing.
NOTE: 80 watts is beyond DOT approval and could get you a ticket if
the LEO was really sharp and inspected your lights.
Just my 1.7 cents worth but if you wish to stay legal the 60/55 will help.
On the flip side, I know guys (and gals) that have H4 lights that switch the bulbs out for offroading events that do use the 100 / 80 version and they say they are great. I beleive that there is on higher wattage bulbs than that but don't know the number.
Remember that a more precise beam can still be too bright for oncoming traffic and I don't like the idea of blinding the guy driving straight at me with a 18 to 24 inch margine for error.
This is only my opiniion and is not meant to infringe on anyone's free choice
for modifying their beloved toy. 8)
