I have an 816 with a nhc 250 and want to do a re-power with a big cam 400. Now I know the typical will not have enough hood clearence etc. but my question is are the blocks close enough in design to use the oil pan and pickup off of the 250 for clearance, the engine mounts, the intake off of a 250 and make it air to air intercooled instead of air to water to fix the hood problem? or if the intake is a problem cut down the sock one and put a 90* elbow facing towards the front of the engine for the intercooler?
thanks in advance for any information and advice.;-)

The 250 and 400 have basically the same block so alot of the parts will interchange.

I don't think the 400 pan will fit in the truck. it hits the front axle. there is a 819 repower thread here that shows it.

Yeah I have researched that thread after posting, he cut and tig welded a relief in the 400 pan but also commented that the 250 would work it just had a smaller pickup than the 400.

I would make sure to use the proper pickup. the 400 needs more oil.
Good point I think it would be easier to cut and swap the pickups in the pan rather than cutting a relief, who knows they may even be pretty close to unbolting and swapping as well.
thanks.
