The boys and I hopped in the M1009 and went to Winfield today, to take my daughter out to eat. It was a good excuse to get out of town.

We stopped at the Herington Reservoir to let off some enrgy and fluids... The boys had a good romp and I messed around until the wind got the best of me. The Drag Boat Racers used to come here all the time as part of their national tour. I am not sure what happened, but I have not heard of them coming in during the last four or five years.

Anyway, it is a very pretty place when the grasses are green. Nice and clear, spring fed, mostly pasture land. Great bass and walleye fishing.... A nice laid back place to kill a summer's evening. More to follow....

When we got down to Florence, I wanted to visit the spring and spring house. It is in a beautifully secluded spot. Maybe the best tasting water I ever drank... The road was very soft, the M1009 could have made it in and out, but I did not want to tear it up for the city trucks.

We did stop at the roadside park on Highway 77. They have put in a five way roundabout here since I visited last. It is for north and south US77, east and west US 50 and 8th street. They are proud of their 99.97 percent pure spring water! That is the only tower like it in Kansas. There is a memorial stone here, photo included... The boys had another good romp!

Just north of Winfield on US 77 there is an old church building. I had been by here many times and had always planned to stop. Bud was squeaking, so I decided to stop and investigate. I should have taken a photo, they cut the back of this building and put in some overhead doors. Anyway, the boys drained off some fluid, a lot more energy and I grabbed a few photos of the front.

It was dark or very close to it when we rolled into Winfield. I wanted to get a shot of the M1009 at their war memorial. The memorial is a first class act, but the lack of light killed me. I took a cheap shot and will have to return. It was a great day!

Thanks! I think you should take your truck and a camera and share a few mural shots with us. I really enjoy those and I know there are others here that do as well. I skipped a lake photo....

This is simply great stuff Glen!!!! The best of MV ownership! Without getting too schmaltzy, all kinds of "freedom" wrapped up in these vehicles...

Love the pics, I love my M1028 but wishing for a M1009 for trips like that. I take my kids to school in it and make small trips, but now thinking highway gears would be better:(. We need a thread on road trips!

I have been to every corner of Kansas in my two M1008s and enjoyed the trips. I must say though, this M1009 is great for running these no load trips. I can take two big dogs without having one on the floor. The extra ten mph is nice going and coming. I like the shorter turning radius and smoother ride too.

I would rather have my truck in really rough country or on really slick roads. This M1009 is a great run around vehicle. One of my favorite things to do is load Parks and Rec maps in my gps and head across country. Cemetery to cemetery... Ghost town to ghost town.... Nothing pressing, just visiting new plaxes, well.... New to me! Glen

Those are some great pictures. Wish that I could convince the wife to move out there. I have driven through the Salina and many parts of Kansas a number of times and love the countryside and small towns. With a wife born and raised in South Florida though all it takes is one weather report.....
