deuce with super singles/off road?

how much better performance do you get out of the deuce with the super singles? i will be using it on the beach in a sand environment. they bring tractors and bucket loaders on the beach that weigh 3 times as much as a deuce so i don't see with weight being an issue. Im from NJ and looking to take it on island beach state park if anyone is familer with that.

Well hello fellow NJ member. I'm just south of you. The debate of super singles vs NDTs off road doesn't have a clear answer. There are 100 threads on it. I would think if you air them down like with a regular truck it would be fine. When we drive out there even trucks with stock tires are fine when down to 15psi.

yea i have a f150 i take down there all the time and lower the air down to 15 and i would also do the same with the deuce but i figured having the super singles over the stock tires would be a big plus.. having 4 tires in the rear i dont see getting stuck but yet it is always a possibility. ive seen pretty decent sized campers drive down there and besides all terrain tires and 4x4 theres nothing special about them. i dont currently have a duece but im def in the market for one and just want to make sure what i am going to use it for is worth the purchase.

It is not a big difference. Yes they work better, but not by much. I have not been in a very sandy area to know for sure, but in mud there is not a big difference.

:driver:I LOVE TIRE Threads,,, :-o...There really is a basic rule to follow, ...A narrow tire is better in Mud and Snow, a Wider tire is better is sand and rocks, ALSO Singles will go thru farther than deuls but deuls are much more stable for a truck that will carry loads...these are facts. U ask about singles, do U mean 1100 michelins or 1400s or the 395s I think that is the size , all better than NDCCs in sand. all have a give and take ,BUT I am an NDTcc freak and Love em, ALL the mil tires will get U thru if U follow the good advise of exteme air down, My advise is do not drive your truck more than U feel it can do, get out and walk areas not sure of, and have a back up to get u out at least by no more than a phone call away,so U are not stuck paying a big tow bill, ...:jumpin:...alot will say one tire is better than all the rest, not true, all have there day . and the driver is more important than the tire...[thumbzup]...oh one more thing, a deuce is prone to hop when most drivers try to do things very slow, like back out of a place they can not go farther foward in, so practice how the truck feels to U in some sand near the begining, and see how it feels to U, if starting to get stuck my advise is stop relax. check to see if deep,do not push thru unless there is hard pack very close. may want to remove some sand from behind the tires then back out slowly,

Would lockers be a better alternitive?

All the emergency equipment i saw in Destin Florida had wide tires on it. I belive the theory to to displace as much weight as possible. There by keeping the truck from sicking.

Lockers would be a big help if you have the dough for them. In sand super singles do alright airing down is always a better way to go, but with the high weight rating of the super singles on a deuce you got to go low psi numbers to flatten them out some, which takes more time to air back up. The biggest reason I like super singles is they are radials, if you dual your truck with radials pick whatever fits, NDTs down right suck! They dont last long, and ride like crap in the cold, well anywhere really!

I am very familiar with BI and LBI. The stock NDT duels will be fine out there. People get into trouble when they apply too much power and dig themselves in... The deuce doesn't have enough power to apply so you really don't have to worry about it.

I've been surprised at how well the NDCCs do in mud and snow. I've been unable to get stuck yet. The deuce with stock tires and duals even plowed through a muddy ditch that my tracked Cat had problems with. If your primary reason for the truck is driving on the beach, I'd opt for some fat tires of some sort over the NDCC's though.

395s seem to be the consensus for that, but you need to learn how to drive in the sand with the deuce since it will be different than with your truck. If you do go and buy one, please message me. I'd love to go and see it since you're right near me. If you don't mind that is...

i appreciate everyone's help with their advice on this topic. this is the rig im looking to purchase. its been up for a while im sure some of you have seen it on ebay or maybe even on here. it still wont be for a few months waiting for the tax return to come back, but if this one sells im sure c&c will have another one coming after this one. im pretty machinacly inclined but i just dont have the space or availible time to take a cheap rig and make it to what i want etc. this pretty much suits my needs. letme know what you all think. Pyrogod117 when the time comes your more then welcome to come down to the state park and take a look. im very comfident i shouldnt have a problem on the beach.. the sand down there isinit to bad yes there are some soft spots but during the prime season its pretty much a road on the beach. 1971 M35A2 46" super singles, pto winch, title others : eBay Motors (item 200439425566 end time Feb-21-10 14:00:00 PST)

Having put well over 500 miles on my truck in the sand, I feel I can chime in on this one.

First of all. The stock NDTs are perfectly fine in the sand if you arent trying to climb steep hills. Once the grade gets to be more then about 12% they tend to dig instead of pull the truck. Most freeways dont go over 6% and we know how that can slow a deuce down on pavement.

Second. Airing down is a must if you plan on doing anything that isnt pretty darn flat. If I hit the sand with some momentum, I can keep the truck moving with rockhard tires(flatlands, no hills), while towing a 8,000lb trailer. Normally airing the front tires down to 15psi is more then enought to get ya most places. Only twice have I ever had to airdown the INSIDE duals on the truck, both those were trying to pull out 1tons with 40ft campers. I Have found if your doing slight hills, or may be pulling people out, airing the OUTSIDE rear duals down to 15psi works pretty good. When the inside tires dig down, the outside will float and keep the truck moving. I have never gotten my truck stuck in the sand, nor have I ever driven down into a place that doesnt have a semi-flat way of getting out.

Third. The engine just doesnt have enough power to pull this truck up hills in the sand, it generally stalls out in lowrange before it can dig itself down the axles. But just incase I always have a shovel, and 4 6ft Lengths of 2x12 incase I have to do the plank wood road if the sand is super soft. Have yet to have to do this.

Lastly, these trucks do great in the sand if you pay attention to your surroundings and don't do something stupid. Just remember, you can pull most things out, most things CANT pull you out. Also if you pulling someone out, use the weight of the truck and nylon tow ropes. The weight of the truck is more then enough to pull most things out, just becareful and let the person your pulling out hook the strap to his truck so if it breaks something not your fault.

PS - I do plan on upgrading to 14.5s in the front, and 1100R20s XL's in the rear, to just get a little more float out of the front end.

josh thank you for your input. i feel more confident now after hearing that you take yours in the sand. the beach im going to be taking it on its flat 9.5 times out of 10. the only hill if any i dont see being a problem. i mentioned earlier they drive 4x4 campers on the beach so it isnit to bad. heres a few pictures of the beach im going to be driving on. not the best pic but will show you a little bit of what im talking about. the one picture is after a storm. the beach normaly is not at that much of a slope

C&C has some sweet trucks. Figure the tires and wheels are about 3K alone, nice paint and it is a winch truck ta boot.

I would be supprised if you even had to air down for something like that, and even then, It would probablly only have to be the front tires at that.

Not enough power in a deuce to dig down???? :confused: You must have the fuel setting
REALLY low. We can spin wheels in first gear low range in an M543A2 5 ton wrecker, and the dueces will do it easily in second low range. They are a real disappointment to drive with the fuel setting too low. No wonder some clutches get a lot of wear! We drove one home from Stout Field, Indy without turning up the fuel, and felt we would rather get out and walk compared to out others, including the 5 tons. And for the comments that might come about "turn it up and blow it up" these trucks have been turned up and driven at least two times a week on the farm and road for close to eight years by drivers who know what they are doing with no engine failures. We are sure to have the good head gasket sets in place.

You can very very stuck in any deuce...;)...the tires on the truck for sale seem to big, they look like they hinder the turning radius alot to me, they look cool, but are just to much for that truck, that i think is more than my opinion, but hey thats my opinion too, the hop I talked about will get U stuck faster than ...:jumpin:...well this guy hoping, even with those tires, but they sure will float on the sand....the current military uses tires big and wide, the type that work better in sand and rocks, because we fight in the sand and rocks. sweet truck, but the 395s are the way to go, but then again I am an NDTCC guy first, I just think they are real tires,,, but thats just me....8)...Oh there will be some very nice deuces for sale at the NJ show, ask for me and i will steer U in the right direction of some nice ones to look at if U want....
