Was driving down the road at a steady 48 mph, heard a clashing sound, then OD was gone. All other gears work fine, the shifter goes into OD no problem, it's just not there. Ideas?

it can be done from the top but for me I like removing the trans to work on it. You get better access and it gives you a chance to look at your clutch and press plate and do some other work that it might need while it's out.

oh dont mess around . take it out . get gaskets from erics surplus NOTICE the gasket on the top of the trans if you like it THROW AWAY still get new one . If your testing the fit of the TOP never snug down the top bolts with out gasket in place or it will bind the trans up tight .

CLEAN VERY WELL every inch of the inside of the trans and use BRASS Friendly oil in the trans

sulfur will kill a deuce trans by eating and pitting the soft parts in the syncros

if you need more help make sure you take photos and ask questions.

Oh take out or open fnt window and rear window use winch to lower trans out of truck and raise back into truck leave the motor lift where its at. the motor lift will never be as on target as a bar with a winch if you have questions about R/R look up my post trans autopsy I have lots more photos if you need a ref.
