Hey guys,
I want to remove the blackout light switch and the service light switch on my m1008. I would like to replace the dash and just have a headlight switch only instead of having the two switches. Has anyone done this? If so your help is greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Matt Tinsman

I kind of like the service light switch except when i for get to turn it on lol. My black out light switch never worked and doesnt stay locked in place lol. I'm sure theres a way to bypass the switch and have lights like a normal truck lol:?:

I took my switch out and turned it around so that it is locked in the up position.
I had to pull the bottom wires and put them in the top and the top wires in the bottom as the connector is polorized and you can't just plug it in upside down.
It is working great 15 years later as this is my D.D. since late 1995.

The BO switch does not lock in place. It returns to center.

To remove the service switch you will need to download the TM and follow the Diagrams in the Appendix. You will both the 13 and 18 diagrams.

I would use double spade connectors and keep from cutting the wires.

The more you remove from the truck, the harder it will be for us to help troubleshoot issues. Also if you ever sell the truck, the new owner may not like the fact that the wiring is not factory. Just a thought.

And these trucks are NOT Normal......;)

I searched the internet for hours on black light removal. I found this picture that shows you how. the pic will not paste. this is the instructions with the pic. loop the top two, connecterslots. that was.connected, to. I can email the picture with the instructions on it. Does any body know were the harness connected to the black box is the black. it is yollow 2inches long with. 6 female co slots. I will gladly pay money to the member who can help me find this. that is how much I want the black out service light switches removed. I blame that for most of the head light problems I have had. vill350@cox.net.

Holy thread from the dead!

Sorry for the ancient thread resurrection, but I'm having some problems and I'm trying to remove the b/o markers to work through it all. Currently, my left flasher indicator on the dash comes on when the service lights are either in park or on with service light switch in ON position. The rear brake lights also come on when lights are either in parking mode or on. Left flasher barely works at all, right works fine. Placing the b/o markers in the ON position, all service marker lights come on, no b/o markers come on. I want to remove the b/o markers entirely and start over with LED's in their place. The CUCV is far far from stock already, so please don't lament that. It has a new Duramax and Allison as well as A/C and other mods, so that ship has sailed.

I bypassed mine so the switch is no longer functional. It operates in service mode only (civilian mode). A couple of jumpers is all it took. So.....

I suggest you follow my method (see here), and if you don't want the switch there, just disconnect it from the dash panel and zip tie it up behind. No muss, no fuss. Find a blank plate or something to replace the BO light switch panel, or something to fill in the holes.

That way, any troubleshooting is like the original wiring, with the switch in the Service Light position. Also, it's very easy to put it back to stock if you sell it or change your mind.

NOTE THAT THE M1031 GUYS SAY THIS WILL NOT WORK ON THEIR MODEL. IT CREATES A CONSTANT ON CONDITION WITH SOME RELAY.

It's fine for the M1009, M1008, and M1028 vehicles.

It's not that complicated. See my method above. Simple to do, and simple to reverse back to stock. Leaves the circuitry as if the switch were permanently in the Service Light position. (y)

Yeah, well, neither are we! :D
