new to deuce question about loading it

I am looking at getting a 72 Deuce. Problem is its 3hr away from me. I have been trying to find someone to drive with me but vaca/out of town family issues prevents my friends from going.

If I like it i want to take it home with me and may be a trailer with it.
So I have 4door mazada 1999 and was wondering if i could somehow get this in the back of the deuce to take it home.

I am going to guess the truck can handle the little car. But how to load/unload it without killing my DD.

Though if this is a good / bad idea etc.

I was thinking I could rent a tow dolly but the deuce only has a pintle and not sure about the height etc.
That would leave me with how to get the trailer home. Put that in the bed but again how and hot o get that off etc.

Any thoughts on this idea...I dont want to miss out on a good Deuce. Not cheap but looks like it is in great shape.

oh ya what kind of tie down points and what is the dimension of the bed?

now that is loading a Honda in to a 5 ton with 14 foot bed.. the deuce is 2 feet shorter (12 foot) so your rear tires might be on the tail gate..... just two little chains and some hooks to the tail gate to hold it up.. you do that math. If your truck is not a drop side there is NOTHING for cargo tie down in the bed. And DO not use the stake (upright) holes for hook points you will just bend up the bed and the hooks will tare out if you have to stop or whatever fast. If you can get the tail gate to close I would do it no problem. Put the car in park and set the E brake and take it ez, but if you cant close the tail gate you have to get inventive on how to strap it down.

Great pictures but they don't show the fun the driver had getting out of the car. :driver:

I just thought of an idea. Have Chum Lee drive the car on, just leave him there till you get home.

Looks like yours had a bed that tilted. the one i am looking at does not. the guy has a way to get the car on he said but I dont have a way to get it out.

I wonder. i think i may know someone with a roll back. think he could back up to the deuce and then drive car on roll back then take it off that way.

I just wonder if the best would line up.

Once you determine the car will fit (my honda civic fits) look for a heavy equipment dealer on both ends, ask if you can use their loading ramps. Or find a rail yard- usually lots of ramps if you start looking. Good luck on your recovery/trip.

i bought a BMW 4 hours away, i just asked them if they could load it onto a semi, they said they could, i wish i had a pic of there faces when i pulled up in the deuce! :evil::evil::evil: we loaded it with a dock, and i drilled holes through the floor in the front, and bolted chains to the bed, and the front of the car, then i chained the back of the car down with binders to take out the slack(hooked to the bumperetts on the rear, checked it after 20miles and trucked home!:driver: i'll try to find some pics....

Has anyone made wood ramps to take a 16000 pound unimog SEE off a trailer? Is it possible? If so, what size planks? As you can see, I am new to this....I have written down a list of how to start it.

The idea of pulling a trailer with a stock deuce is not possible. Hitch is to high fact.

Loading a car in the back of a deuce is dangerous. Ask your self what could go wrong.

Save for self so time, hassle, and money. Have it hauled.

I agree, It is certainly possible to load your car in the back of the truck and so on so forth, but you being unfamiliar with the deuce and inexperienced. You just need to ask yourself "Is it worth it?" I had my deuce hauled home when I bought it. now that I know more about the trucks I would go get my next one but I'm glad I didn't try that with the first one.

Now comes the idea of putting a civy hitch on the deuce IF you buy it.
It will take about an hour or perhaps a little longer but if you are gon g to buy it then you will probably want a receiver hitch for it anyway.
I purchased a used hitch of a 1 tone Ford Van and had it narrowed and then I installed it. This was before I knwe about the Curt hitch that everyone has been raving about. This hitch is about $220 but it is new and has a 15,000 or 16,000 lb. rating. You could hang your deuce by it if you wanted to and then the tow dolly is a snap to hitch and un-hitch but you will need some 24 volt bulbs to install in it temporarily or use magnetic lights with 24 volt bulbs.
I vote for the hitch or perhaps a cheapy rental car for a one-way trip. Airport to airport is a good way to go for one-way rentals if you think that this may work.
I also took a Greyhound one time too for a rescue mission but that took about 6 hours to make what was normally a two hour trip in a car.
Perhaps someone else has an :idea: here that may work better for your particular needs.
Post your decision if you would as I am always wanting to know details, details, details....
