real nice CUCV m1028 on ebay in NJ

My final bid on the last M1031 was $987.00 before the fees and all. Also acquired 200' of the heavy extension chords they use in the field, a 4000# block & tackle, amd a few other odds and ends that were in the back. While I did not get this particular truck running and it had some interior parts missing, the hardware alone was worth $2k easily. Anyway, I doubt they'll get any bids on ebay for that starting price, but who knows...

I managed to find the auction in my bid history: 4940 - Miscellaneous Maintenance Equipment at Government Liquidation
I was mainly after the limited slip front axle and the t-case, but when I picked it up, was pleasantly surprised with all the stuff in the back. The only thing missing was a starter on the engine. I have 3 other M1008s, one of which I am currently lifting and modifying, so it didn't matter if this thing ran. Anyway, I wouldn't ever pay more the $2k for a CUCV. The last blazer I bought was $411, and it now sits on an 8" superlift and 37" tires. It also has a 1978 K20s axle setup under it to make it a true 3/4-ton.

yes its is mine.. now i know why no one is buying it. prices droped. i have scraped a bunch of m1031 bodys. cut up 3 running and driving cucvs and 1 crew cab. im not into this like i was. seem to have a hard time selling things off. down south i have a guy that come up and buys all my 1 ton axles i can get. gave him 16 sets last trip. have 7 set already. thats it tho. didnt sell anything other then the axles. sucks.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
You should know better than to try and trick your fellow SS members into something like this.
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.
I only had one class in college on economics, but I did learn the rules of supply and demand. Now is not the time to sell with these things. They are at their nadir of value right now because the market for them is flooded. I am holding on to everything I buy and will wait 10 years for the value to increase. Once GL sells all of the CUCVs, Deuces, and 5-tons it has, and the bad ones are scraped with the restorable ones restored, the ones that have survived will be worth probably 4 or 5 times what they are worth now.
BTW, I think cutting up running/driving CUCVs is sacreligious, and I would have been very interested in a crewcab.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Thousand dollar CUCVs (except 1009s) are the exception, not the rule. I've not been watching them lately and if I had the jack, I'd buy a thousand dollar contact maintenance truck. The fact of the matter is that the 60F keeps the prices up with the pickups and until the supply dwindles and the parts trucks are chopped up, prices will be controlled by the supply and demand for the front axles. Once the amount of pickups has dwindled, the price of the trucks will rise. I'd love to have an M1031 but my current motorpool can't handle another truck.

Oh, the horror of it all...
Of course the market is flooded. You might want to hang on to those D60 front ends for a while. they are dirt cheap right now, but once they have all found thier new homes, which usually is under a rock crawler if not under the original chevy frame, it will only a matter of time until they start going back up in value. I won't let go of a set of axles for less than $1800, and that is with the open carrier in the front. Needless to say, I haven't sold any yet, and that is fine. I have 16 acres of which 6 is devoted to my "herd o' trucks".
Was the crew cab you typed about earlier a CUCV, you know, like a dually or something?

WOW i cant believe those prices. i would think they dont sell to much. i have never set up a ring and pinon. dont know how to do that yet..

Yeah, I think they drank the bong water shortly before making up that price list. I know I wouldn't pay $3k for a front end with a LS diff. As far as rebuilding them, you don't usually have to re-set the carrier or pinion if you are not changing anything but seals, but if you are changing carriers, it's a good thing to check the backlash. It depends on the differential, of course, but basically you put it together, paint the teeth on the ring gear, and rotate the assembly to see where they mesh. You sometimes don't have to do anything, but it isn't hard to move the pinion in or out or the carrier side to side to get the teeth to mesh in the middle of the ring and pinion gear areas after you do a couple.
Now occasionally you might run into one that hums even after you think it is set right, and those can be very distressful in that you have to go back to point A and start all over again. Thankfully, I haven't come across one of those yet - knock on wood. I think I would probably cry if I did because I HATE having to go back and do stuff over again. I think I'd rather sand-paper a bob-cat's butt in a phone booth. Here kitty-kitty...aua
