5 gallons of Kerosene okay??

My brother has 5 gallons of Kerosene he's had in a sealed container since last Fall.
Can I add that to a near-full tank of straight diesel and run it safely in my multi-fuel?

He needs it out of his garage and I can always use free fuel. :)

If its in a sealed 5gal can then its probably "K1" kerosene which is used for space heaters. K1 has little to no lubricity but since your putting it in a near full tank then ( as mentioned) it should not be a issue.

It's in a big plastic jug, that we normally use for race fuel or quads, not a steel can.

If I were to guess, I bet he bought it at the local gas station in the fall.
Is that different than K1?

Yes, as in a possible DOT issue. Dyed fuel means non-taxed and can lead to some heavy fines if they dip a test strip in your tank and find it. Odds of that happening are very slim but it's up to you if you feel the risk is worth it to save a few bucks.

If you look in the tanks of the trucks at GL you will see kerosene or JP8 which is a lower quality jet fuel. Jet A is the best quality.
Other than lacking lubricity, it will work just fine and your truck will feel like it is back in the military for a while.

I should also point out that lubricity, while it certainly plays a role, is less important on a multifuel than other common diesels as the IP is lubed by pressure fed engine oil.
I did not know that!
The multi-fuel is an interesting old engine for sure.

It's kind of funny that folks think of the multi-fuel process as being old, and the plain old diesel process (such as is in their brand new diesel PU truck) as being new.

The multifuel system was invented in the 1960's as an enhancement to the direct injection diesel engine. The diesel system used in PU trucks was invented many decades before the multifuel system.

K2 is your common Kerosene K1 is more refined to burn in space heaters and not smoke. Lubricity also plays a part in the combustion chamber and lubing the cyl walls, yes these engines can run on gasoline but that does not mean they will "last" while running on it

Kerosene from a pump? Wheres this at and how much?
You won't get cheap K1 at a gas station.....I saw it advertised at my local "stop and rob"
for over 4 bucks a gallon.

Last year at the GA Rally I got some JP-8 from a fellow member....the M109 was strolling on I-20 back to Bammer......I had put all the fryer oil from the kitchen in it for lubrication.
Ran like a bat out of Hades and smelled good too.

Dump it in the tank and go.....put some DF conditioner or clean used ATF in there if yo can get it.

Dump it in and drive (as long as it is clear) My mercedes recommends 50% Kerosene below 0. 5 gal is only 10% + - I put 5 gal of nasty root beer colord gasoline in my Deuce and did not even notice any changes.

Add one ounce of 2 cycle outboard motor oil to 3 gallons of fuel and it restores the lubricity that Diesel used to have before they cut the sulfur out of it.

I have a study I can forward to anyone that asks that offers in depth analysis of the different fuel additives.

I always add the 2 cycle oil, and also powerservice additive to cetaine improvement. The additive also is good for reducing the possibility of gelling in the fuel in the winter.

Sorry to mention that dirty word (winter) this time of year.....
