Has anyone used a "M720 dolly trailer" before? I don't know if I could use this or not. I thought maybe it could be used as a car dolly? Not sure at all how it works.

Thanks for the reply. That satisfied my curiousity. It'd be my luck that I rip the front of a car off. LOL. It might be able to bolt onto my M1009 frame if I took the bumper off. That would be something to do in my spare time. Maybe I'll try it one day. Thanks again.

Remember that the tongue is like a wagon tongue in that it articulate up and down.
A civilian tow dolly has a non-articulating tongue like a trailer so you will have to do a little more engineering but the idea is sound.

Good point. I had thought to put a tow bar on the truck anyways. I wasn't sure yet if I wanted to just trade the tailgate for the one on my c10 so I could fit a ball that way. I'd have to take the two towing hook bars off. I'm not sure exactly what they are called. They poke through the front and back bumper. If they weren't rusted through, they'd be cool to look at and probably worthwhile to use. I used them when I towed the truck. It was either drill the bumper with no drill handy or nothin. It worked fine to put the bars through the towing hook/link/shackle things.

I noticed the fuel cell is small on this truck. I'm hoping to raise something and put another tank or a bigger tank on it. Kinda wanna make it between gas stations. If I get a chance before my c10 is sold, I'd like to take the fuel switch out of it and make it work for diesel fuel cells. Might just get an all new kit anyway though.

The civilian Chevy Blazer did have an optional larger tank but the military skid plate won't fit it and I don't remember the size difference.
If you are trying to tow your M1009 then you have the frame extensions in place and all you have to do is hook a tow bar to those extensions using 1 inch diameter bolts or pins. I have towed my M1009 several thousand miles the first 5 or 6 years that I owned it and other than disconnecting the rear driveshaft (rear side only) it is relatively easy to hook up and tow.
I even tapped into the original harness and spliced in a trailer connector to make it quick and easy.
I evidently don't see "the big picture".
If you can give more details about what you want to accomplish perhaps we can further assist.

Edit; In further reading I see that some of your extensions are rusted. You don't obviously want to pull
with those but I have seen some on e-bay in the last few weeks or so and I'm sure that there are others for sale
from parts trucks too and perhaps even here on S.S.

Yeah, I spent a good deal of time tracking down alternator brackets this morning. So far I found a possible set with no bolts for about 55 and a full set with bolts through eastern surplus for about 125. I'm hoping someone's parts truck is going cheaper for the one set or both. (dual alternators).

I had towed it from Dallas that same way. Worked great. I couldn't see behind the uhaul to know if it was going to roll away. I was shook for all of 300 miles. lol. Hopefully the beast will run long enough for 2 miles to the repair shop. They can cut the bolts off the grille support and I can finish that much up. I apologize if I offend for not being a restoration fan, I like the 89 suburban grille a lot more.

I'm kinda off subject from my original thread post. I had started another about tracking down alternator brackets. Basically, I need to get this truck running good. It needs the alternator put on it so it can stay running. The missing link there is alternator brackets and bolts. After that, I'm converting to 12v unless maybe a winch later requires 24v. It doesn't make a big difference to me. I can afford an alternator compared to the price of the brackets and bolts. I'm trading radiator supports as we speak as soon as two bolts come off so that can happen. I will need to either repair the shell or replace it because it has a vent in it from having a generator mounted in the back. The tailgate needs work and I'd like electric windows anyhow. At the moment, I'm most worried about putting the alternator on and getting it done asap. My apartment manager has noticed that it has sat for 2 months and the other truck is broken so they want to tow both of them. Bad news bears.... :(

Looks like I'll be sticking to 24v as soon as I can get a second alternator. Just found a recently posted thread that enlightened me pretty well. Not sure if this update is going to affect advice at all. Thanks for any and all advice though.
