Making Oil Change Easier

Most of us probably buy engine and gear oil by the 5 gal pail. When you go to pour it into a oil kettle it tends to spill and make a mess. Well I bought a couple of hand pumps that mount on to 5 gal pails. My neighbor turned me on to them when I was helping him service the tractors for planting this year and they work pretty good. Whats really neat about using one on a bucket of gear oil is you can put the spout right into the fill hole in the Tcase, Tranny, or Diff to make for easier fill up. You can even put your bucket of engine oil on the fender and pump directly into the engine. Ijust thought I would share this bit of information in the hopes of making things easier for somebody else. Here is the link to what i got................
Zee Line Manual Oil Pump — 5 Gallon, Model# 321 | Barrel + Hand Pumps | Northern Tool + Equipment

These are very helpful indeed. I hate trying to hold a 40 lb. bucket of rotella above the spout for 5 minutes when doing oil changes.

How many strokes does it take per gallon? The Northern Tool spec says it is only 1-2.3oz per stroke, even if it is dual action that seems like a lot of strokes per gallon at 128oz per gallon, still easier than holding the 5 gallon pail and pouring it in tho!

Agree that these 5 gallon barrel pumps are REALLY great when you're changing your gear oil in the transmission, transfer case, or differentials. They pump 90W oil easily and you just hook the little spout into the fill hole of whatever you're filling.

I haven't used one for engine oil yet because I usually get the one gallon jugs.

Yep, its easier and cleaner although it does take a little more time to pump than it does to pour................We all know how easy it is to make a mess from the old chug-a-lug-burp-splat when pouring from a 5gal pail.

i just buy the gallon jugs of the rotilla at wal-mart. and use (2) 5 gallon buckets to drain the pan.

id also assume if you knew some one at a quickie oil change place maybe they would let you drive in and drain and refill with 15w40
