I see you have no traction control (eg. ladder bars, 4 link etc.) I have a feeling you may be getting axle wrap, which leads to wheel hop, which leads to broken parts. I built a bobber with 105 springs (with overloads) and the wrap was terrible. I don't have a bed on mine yet and before I put a ladder bar setup on it I could watch the rear end through the back window.... the pinion would roll up and down about 2.5 inches... with the speed and torque the driveline sees on these trucks that can't be good.

gotta be more to it...

There must be something else going on. Yes, the 53s with a locker are more stress on the axle but you are bobbed. That extra stress is mitigated if you do not have the ground pressure to back it up.

My money is on the set up of the gears...

Are both of these bad rear axles off the same truck originally?

Were they internally inspected prior to the damage?

both axles came off the same truck. the first one went about 60 miles and melted. the secound one lasted a year and then the teeth came off the gear. none of them were inspected. they came off a military truck that had an 05 rebuild.
