Truck got hit friday night.

I was at a party friday night and went to my truck to change my clothes because it was getting cool out. Then noticed that I had scrapes all along the whole bed and a busted tail light. No note and no one said anything. Well later on in the night after I left, the truth came out and kids were talking about it and it got back to me. Turns out the guy is like 50 years old and I know him and he's my dads foot doctor. He claims that he did not know he hit the truck and would pay for the damages. I think that is a lie and he had to known. I had an extra tail light but what about the paint. It will never match 5 different spray paint jobs. What would be the right thing to do?? I would have let it go if someone maned up to it and told me they were sorry and call it a day. But he took off and said nothing because its a 25 year old truck.

Should I...

1 take it to a body shop and get an estimate
2 Make him buy me 383 and brown and black and paint myself
3 just let it go because it is spray painted all over and wanted to paint it anyway.

I put this in the CUCV category because I talk to a lot of you guys all the time and trust your opinions.

I second the police report. Also, I'd ask for reasonable conpensation, no matter who it is.

I would take it to a shop and get an estimate. Then tell him that if he paid for the paint you would paint it your self. He will probably save several hundred and you will be able to paint the truck as intended.

I'm 99% sure he will come through with the money. what is a reasonable dollar amount. He told me just send him the bill and he will take care of it. Plus there was witnesses.

He did not dent the bed he just scuffed the paint. If he pays for the paint I think that it would be fair enough. Since he did not get a DWI and the cops at his house. I just talked to a town cop and he said get an estimate and give it to him and if he does not pay I could still file a report.

Chances are REALLY good that the scrapes also have sheet metal damage as well. Being rough camo helps to hide them but new paint will tend to show the dents --even flat camo- though not as as bad as regular shiny automotive paint. My point being--make sure any estimate includes any bodywork---don't short-change yourself.Really look close and/or have the bodyshop look close--bodywork is spendy.
Just my2cents worth.

Pay the Doc a visit with "Ole Hickory" and some "boot leather". Just kidding. Get a police report then give him a chance to man up. If all else fails resort to the first sentence. :p

dstang97,

Personally, I would get the police report sooner rather than later. Just in case whatever arrangements are made go South. Should this end up in small claims court it would look questionable that you waited a week or more to file a report. His attorney could say that some or even all of the damage happened later possibly by someone else.

I'm not saying you can't work something out with the guy, but you need to have your ducks in a row in case they don't. Beside filing a report should cost little to nothing other than a few bucks for your copy and your time.

My gf is at the body shop right now and the guy said there is no real damage and could pro ably wipe it off. I told him the circumstances about what happened and he said he would write something up. At minimum I will have tje guy buy me materials to paint if the body shop does not come up with much. I do know amoher body shop that could write something up. I would like to get a dollar amount today to give to the guy. If I do not get money today I going to the pd. I forgot it happened sat night and did not know untill sum 10am

I would wet it down with water & look for the damage that show up when it shinny.
Dull CARC does not show up much at all. Are Chief WO3 would do this when doing level 30 TI.
To make sure it was listed on dd- 2404 when the operators had body damage listed when PMCS was performed.

Two wrongs don't make a wright.

Tell him your gonna fix/paint it yourself, if he pays for the paint, no reports will be filed.

Also mention that if he'd have told you right away, it would never gone any further.

That is the reason I posted this. I want to be fair and I believe in karma.
