We all know how expensive the brake fluid for our vehicles is. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you spill some, not to mention the environmental impact to the ground. One of my pet peeves is the fact there is no way to easily reach the master cylinder without a funnel or other device. My friend/Guru/mentor DLawbrey showed me a way to use a clean 20oz soda bottle to add the fluid. It works great, but with any idea, there is generally room for improvement.
Now to the point. I am a ROV tech/pilot and one of the things we have to do to our hydraulic systems is check them for air and water before and after each dive. Today I was performing a air check, which involves hooking a bottle up to the top of each "firestone" (air bag now used to contain hydraulic fluid at low levels of pressure) with a quick disconnect, and I looked at the check bottle and I had the light bulb go on.... this would be PERFECT for adding fluid to my master cylinder.
They are very easy to construct:
Get one dish soap bottle
About 2 feet of 1/4" tubing (I am using parflex in the picture below
Cut the funky shaped end off the top of the bottle (the pointed part) until you have nothing but a straight piece left.
Insert said tubing into the straight piece and seal with super glue.
Voila!, No more spilling, no more environmental damage and no fluid to gather dirt etc under your vehicle. You now have a sealed delivery system to add your fluid!
I am going to study the TM's and experiment when I get home to see if there is a way to adapt this for bleeding the brakes.
