14.00 vs. 395/85R on M813

Well here's the question. I can find lots of 395's and not many 14.00's. Can I put the smaller tires on my truck? The biggest question is what is the 395 rated for weight? The 14.00 is rated at 9920 pounds I think. I would not consider anything less on the front.

Thoughts?

395's look good on 5-Tons too. They are the same size as the 15.5's.

The 15.5/395's about an inch wider (which always looks good) and a little under 3 inches shorter. So not too much difference. Little less highway speed, but still a good improvement over 11R20's.

Might I ask why you are so concerned about front weight ratings? Hauling deuces on the hood of your 5-Ton?

The Michelin XL 15.5's are rated at 12,125 lbs
The Michelin XML 395's are rated at 9,645 lbs

I worry about everything. There's probably a name for such a condition.

It looks like all of those will handle the weight. Thanks for the info.

Hey Joe

Hey Joe. Try to find some XZL 395s. I can't recall off hand what the rating is but they are more than my XML 395 tires. I have 1400 XZLs on one truck and 395 XZLs on another. I prefer the 395s hands down!

They XZL pattern does much better off road than I expected. It cleans well and pulls great. I do not mud bog like some of the other guys on here that don't care for the XZL but I do work these trucks in South Texas gumbo every week. For a good all around tire (driving to LA or working in the pastures) the XZL is hard to beat.

Well I went down today to pick up some tires. I won a couple of M35's last night so I decided to get a set for the bob job I plan to do and I picked up two 14.00's for my M813. They didn't have many tires so it was slim pickin's. They say there are not many 14.00 coming through any more but I don't have the time or desire to change all my tires at once so changing to 395's is out for now. I did pick up 5 for the bob truck I plan to do soon. They say the 16.00's are easier to get. So maybe I should save up my penny's and get 7 of them. I would have gotten a couple more 14.00's but the truck was full.
