Go thrught the TM section of the site carefully. I did a little searching and found...

Also look for TB-43-0209 - EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about camo
Man !! that makes me dizzy just looking at it , seems like it would be easier to just copy a few good color pics .

Those of you that have used the paint from Rapco . Are you happier spaying it and with the look verses true carc ? From the looks of my trucks and what I am told , the carc is not very user friendly and sprays like mud . I want something that is going to lay out smooth and have a consistant sheen to it .

Someone on here (Sorry, I can't remember who) used the guide from the TM by making a copy of it, then coloring it in with colored pens or pencils or something.

Sounded like a good idea to me.

I was told my so called camo job looked like clouds - fluffy little animals - so don;t copy mine :-D

I just kept applying flat black till the truck disappeared and had to throw dirt on it to find it again it was camo;d so sweet. Paint till it becomes invisable with the background - whatever that may be.

But really - I pulled several camo patterns as well and did not like any of them - just wanted to keep it simple and look like clouds and fluffy animals - I plan on hiding in a zoo on a cloudy day.

I used the paint from rapco and was very happy. We shot one of my trucks in 383 green. We used xylene as the thinner and put at least three coats on the entire truck with one galon of paint. I was very happy with the results. The sheet settles down with a little sun and heat and I am getting ready to paint another one with the rapco paint. Additionally if you use xylene as the thinner the spray cans from rapco will be an exact match and you may have less sheen than with other thinners. The spray cans work great and you can reach areas often difficult with a spray gun. You can do also do touchups and no one will ever be able to tell as the color is exact. Most decent harware stores sell xylene in a gallon container. I think I paid about $12 for a gallon. Home Depot does not sell it or even know what it is. Go somewhere like ACE Hardware or a good hardware store.

I just finished mine. I used Rapco and loosly followed the TM. One suggestion is to put the cover on and mark the lines from it then go from there. I am very pleased with the Rapco paint. I am not so pleased with the Rustoleum flat black as I once was. As you can see I masked my pattern, then I traced it with an air brush after removing the tape. I prefer the sharp lines though and may retape it and do them over. I know it's not the "correct" look, but it's my truck.

Once air and moisture get under the paint, the rusting process starts. Painting over the old paint just hides the rust a little longer. Even sanding is difficult because the chemistry of the rust goes deeper into the metal. And that's why I HATE rust.

Most people can't tell if the black and brown spots are per the TM or not. They either think it's cool or not. Paint your truck green then get 2 eight year old boys. Give one brown and the other black paint and tell them to put handprints all over the truck. Ha, ha. I bet it would work very well as camo.
I want to try this :)

I did my 813 about a year ago, it was tan when I got it. I tool the cab cover to Home Depot and had them color match the colors. The paint is Bear flat latex exterior house paint. It's holding up good in the So Cali sun.

I never would have thought there was a tm for camo(duh). I thought it was a spastic free-for-all,,,but then again it doesnt look like it was tagged rolling thru east LA either ( which I hate... seeing on trucks and railroad cars that were moving too slow):!:

I'm about to paint my truck and was wondering about the camo process. I have a friend that's a painter and he's going to spray the truck for me. He's concerned there will be too much overspray if he freehands it and I'm concerned the lines will be too tight if we tape it. It seems most people do freehand it. Is that correct?

I did mine in Gillipsie 383 colors. My truck is an A3 with the typical rusted hood bands so had to correct that before paint. There where surface rust spots on sides near grill too. Sandblasted these sports, then clean with Eastwood rust preventive spray then painted repaired sections with Eastwood rust encapsulator. Followed up with painting the three color camo pattern by using the TM's as a guide and painted by eye. The paint did not look good right after painting-but after about 3 days the paint "settled down" and looked great. She looks new again. As for the dash-I cleaned with windex several times then spayed with a spray wax protectant-it looks almost new again. Total cost-less than 100 bucks.

I taped mine off and then went over some of the color meets with an air brush. After looking at the two lines I prefered the sharp lines. Yes I know it's not for everyone and it's not "correct", but I like it. I guess my point is you can tape and paint and then just hit the lines with an air brush and it still looks good.
