Hey everyone I was wondering what the average price that m1009's go for on Gov Liquidation, and what a fair price for an average condition m1009 is on the private used market.

If I bought a M1009 from Gov Liquidation, what sort of things would I need to replace/work on to get the vehicle to a reliable point?

Thanks for the help

There is no average condition. I bought two and neither ran. The second I had to rebuild the engine. My buddy who paid about the same got one running. What to fixaua If it is on the truck you might have to fix it.

I am not trying to be rude I just shoot straight. I am not sure what they are going for. But there is no way I would go much over 2k. Unless you can go in and look it over, start it, and drive it. But I will say now that it is running I love it!

I think it depends where it is too. I bought one from GL and paid over 3k. That was before I knew what starts and runs can mean in their description. Rust is the thing that turns me off first.

I got one for $600 from GSA but many parts were missing and it has rust. I've replaced the parts and the rusty parts and it runs like a champ. Your best bet is to preview the vehicles and pick 3 or 4 in the best shape.

My first M1009 had 60k miles and I paid $4000 for it from a private individual. It runs fairly well. I've had to replace the fuel filter base plate and bracket and several other minor parts. And I've had to trouble shoot several problems and fix them myself.

My M1028A2 (dually) had 14k miles and I paid $5200 for it from GL. I drove it home 2000 (ish) miles from Ft Drum to Denver, Colorado. It runs great.

My M1031 had 13k miles on it and I paid $3000 for it from GL. It ran fine once I bled the fuel system all the way to the injectors. I sold it about a year later.

My second M1009 has 14k miles on it and I paid $2400 for it from GL and just picked it up from Ft. Riley, Kansas the end of June this year. I bled the fuel system to the fuel filter and IT started right up and runs OK. I need to replace the fuel filter mounting base/bracket and that should resolve the issues this one is having.

SO, there is NO set price. There is no set condition. But you can get a nice one in good shape. You just have to have a little luck.

My last M1009 I bought a couple of months ago was DOA, but fired right up once I put a charge on the batteries. It later turned out one of the batteries had a dead cell, so I bought a marine-starting battery from Sam's club for $60, and have been driving it without problems since. My final bid was $600 for that truck, and had I bought another M1009 a couple of years ago out of Alabama for a final bid of $410, but it needed major work to get it running. As most people on here will tell you, the truck is worth whatever it is worth to you. There is a danger of being accused of price fixing, or something like that, if bidders get together and decide before hand to stop bidding at a certain price, so I doubt anyone here is going to tell you an exact amount they would pay. As for me, I know I want to avoid getting into a bidding war with anyone, so I usually look real close at the pics, and decide what the vehicle in question is worth and what it needs to be complete, then set a max bid on it on the first day, and try not to re-bid on it until the auction is over. Whenever I have stuck to this plan, I have not over bid, but I have seen a few nice trucks slip away with only one bid over mine, which can make you wonder what if?
In looking at M1009s, keep in mind they are really only 1/2-tons with a nice TH400 transmission and a military-grade 6.2 diesel, which gives you about an extra 20 HP over the civi version, if I am not mistaken. The axles are GM 10-bolts, and the rear has a gov-loc in it, which will stand up to light 4-wheeling, but will not take any real abuse. All-in-all, they are not any more special than a standard Custom-Delux version of a civi Blazer, except they are a piece of Americana in a way. They also don't have A/C in the majority of them, although I have seen it in a forestry truck once, so if you are wanting something the wife or girlfriend will be comfortable in on a summer day, you might want to consider something else.
Just my 2cents

I paid $3300 for mine and haven't HAD to put any money into it, but I sure have! The only thing I really needed to do was change all the fluids so I knew what was in it. Mine stated 63,000 miles when I got it and I believe it, but who knows.

I bought mine from eBay, and in retrospect, paid way to much. I got the M1009 fever and let myself bid to high. Talking to other folks, I have found that the ones that are being sold through dealers or and online dealers are are selling for twice what they paid for them. The re-sellers have to make a profit. You might do better buying from an individual than a reseller.

At the end of the day, if it's a good price to you, then it's a good price.

I did well on avoiding rust but got one without a starter bracket and had to learn the hard, hard, hard way about how little that bracket costs and how much it is worth. That's how I found out about Steel Soldiers.

Yeah, I've got to concur. It's worth what YOU thinks it's worth.

OK, maybe it's worth WHAT YOUR WIFE thinks it's worth. THAT'S my situation...

LOL! Yet here I sit with two M1009's and one M1028A2, all of which my wife gave me the money to buy.

I only need to add the M1010 and the M1031 and I'll have a fair CUCV collection.

Just gotta wait until next year. I've spent WAY to much of my wife's money on OD green stuff. And she gave it to me. She does enjoy the club outings almost as much as I do.

I agree ,if you buy one at auction it's a gamble. If you buy from an individual at least you can test drive it and hopefully have a clear title. Also the price should reflect are you going to have to fix somethings or just put fuel in it and drive it away.:driver:

Friend went with his wife to pick up his "Starts and Runs" M1009. It started and it "ran" but it didnt move. LOL. He came back pretty discusted. I went with him a week later with my truck and trailer and picked it up. The tranny was toast and the rear drive shaft was bent to ****. Its still sitting in his back yard were I unloaded it. Hes not the mechanical type and Im not home more than a few days a month and spend my time with my wife and kids when I am. I think he is ready to sell it for CHEAP. His wife still bitches at him for spending $1800 for it. It did have a nice CARC paint job on it. Thats probrably why it went for so much. Yah Starts and Run...................Buyer beware. Its indeed a crap shoot.

These vehicles are like CRACK (No, I've never tried crack but I have worked in law enforcement and have seen the addictions - LOL). Once you get a taste you want more no matter what. I have "Mongo" and haven't had any major issues (knock on wood) but yet I feel like I want another one. I would actually LOVE to have a deuce but don't have room. I would drive that EVERY day if I had one!

Well I'm off to scour Government Liquidators!!

Cheers!
