I have been around the web looking for Black to go with the '383' green and brown I am using for a total repaint. I have used the flat black by Krylon; but I don't like it for this job- rather have something with the same apearance over the long haul as the '383'.

Rapco has 911 Flat Black... is there anything that is as good or better?

I have been using Sherwin Williams Chemical Coatings alkyd paint in flat black with great results.

I didnt like Rapco's 911 Flat Black . I ordered 2 test cans and both didnt give me the flat and correct color I wanted. Looked like Wal Mart Krylon black. I always and will use Rustoleum Flat Black , either in Spray cans or by the Gallon. Cheaper and to me it last and looks better. If you have seen any of my trucks thats what it is.

You could try the Duplicolor acrylic enamel in flat black from pep boys. I've painted other things on my truck with it and it doesn't seem to have a reflective finish under moonlight. It is also a pretty durable paint for somthing in a spray can. Now if only someone made an acceptable substitute for carc green. Thats the one that erks me the most.

I agree with Jay on the Gillespie black. I almost always go with CARC. However, for touch ups, I use Krylon ultra flat black. It is almost a 100% match with fresh black CARC. I don't know if you can buy it by the gallon.

The Federal Standard color number for flat black is 37038.

Rapco's paint is not CARC, it's an enamel paint.

Any automotive paint supplier should be able to color match to that code number for the polyurethane that they sell if you want to use polyurethane.

Very interesting this came up today.

I have a gallon of Mil-DTL-53039C single component black for reshooting my clouds and cartoon figures - or was that animals (my camo) on the 109.

Planned on getting this done before the weekend seeing how the weather is changing and not so brutal hot.
