Primary fuel filter

Ok, I have one for you.
just pulled the primary filter on the 109. The seconds all seemed normal other than the filters were different from what was in there. The primary is really different and I seem to be missing some of the stock parts. The TM calls for a washer, spring, washer, gasket, cup, then the filter. I have a washer, spring, and cup. Seems like that would let unfiltered fuel pass at the bottom.

The filter kit has a washer & a cork gasket, but not big enough to go on the center shaft.

Has anyone seen a primary filter like this?

Yes, there are both long and short filters out there. They are interchangable.

Look at the -20P for the exploded view.

If your "can"was totally "stripped", to assemble it correctly you would install on the stud, washer, spring, washer, rubber seal, cone(small end down), cotter pin, filter.

The original rubber seal(between the top washer and the cone) is a square cut oring, a regular round o ring can be substituted. It gets squeezed and seals the cone to the center stud.

fwiw, I just did an advanced search for "primary fuel filter" in the deuce forum. I found this and a few other good threads.

So it looks like I need to find another washer and an O-ring that fits the shaft. I have been looking at the TM, "ARMY TM 9-2320-361-24-1" that's why I knew better than to just put it back together the way it was ;-)
Another thing that is diff is that the shaft is NOT drilled for a cotter pin.

The cotter pin hole is up near the top. It just retains the hardware, if you inverted the can. (obviously with out it, the parts can get lost).

That is how it was on both the secondary & final. There really is no hole for a cotter pin in this can. The shaft also seems larger (bigger in dia) than the ones on the secondarys (hard to tell for sure as I had already put them back before opening the primary) I did have to use a 1" wrench to get it off.
