Did anyone win or have look at any of the dozen or so M820's that sold today a Fort Riley? Anyone know why they sold so cheap? They averaged about $1100-1200 each, they were a little rough but that's not even scrap price. I planned on driving up the to look but I found a M127 I needed so no trip, I wish I had now those were a steal even with a eight hour drive home!!!!!

PS: The ones in the photos were the nicest, one M820A2 did sale for over three grand but the rest were super cheap!

They sold cheap because they are out in the middle of nowhere and there were several of them.....shipping would be high to get to my place. Even if you drove it home figure 3 MPG downhill with a tailwind.
Not a bad price if you were close.

I know we can't mention sales prior to them being over but this time it would have probably saved a load of really nice truck from ending up on the scrap heap!!!! I need another 5 Ton!

If your a regular, you dont need someone to post an auction on here to help you find it. Besides how do you know they are going to the scrapper? There maybe several members that got good deals but they just may not be regular posters.

I posted a thread earlier today, must have been buried. I made four trips over to look at them. I really wanted to buy the one that had Tank Doctor stenciled on the doors. I wanted to make a shorter truck out of it and put a deuce bed on. I planned to save the artwork on the doors.

I did not realize they have a doubled frame until I went back today. They have an almost full length frame riveted securely to the outside of the original frame. We would be drilling rivets for a month! With a truck weight of 29,000 and a bed weight of 19,000... these were a bargain. Somebody got some really nice Michelins on two of those and a new set of 12 NDTs on another. Glen

Looked at those but the distance was the killer. Then Vinny had to point out the 934 expandable vans that were for sale in Mississippi. Price on one was not bad but just out of the range that would allow my wife to let me live. Hope some one here got one or both of them.

Would it have not made more sense to just remove the doors and put them on another truck? Rather then cut up a truck.

It sounds like they were in good enough shape for a couple hours of maintenance and I could have driven one home the 280 miles. I will be more proactive next time.

I went and looked at them all. There are more coming up for auction !! Most of them where very ruough (my opinion) I live within a hundred miles of the base and still couldn't figure out how to get one home. Several had the transmissions pulled out and setting in the back of the trucks. I thought that yes there where about three trucks you could get running in just a few hours but the rest needed lots more work than that. I know thats the joy of owning a mv is working on them !!

I can't believe uncle same paid over $100,000 and they sold for $1000.00 or so. A good buy for someone I hope

One of the advantages of living on the edge of the Great American Desert is the fact that there aren't as many competitors for the stuff at Riley :)

and 820's weren't the only things to go dirt cheap there recently
