Front wheel cylinders

As you know, I'm doing a complete brake job on my wrecker, and will be posting a How To as soon as I'm done. Meanwhile, I now have a problem and need some input/ advice. I've completed the rears on one side, and have moved on to the front. After honning the cylinder, I went for the kit, and found the cups to be too small. I have checked the TM'S, and as far as I can tell the fronts were supposed to be 1 3/4", and the rears 2". Seems as though I've read a thread or post about installing the larger ones on the front, and it was not a good idea--------- Don't remember why, or if that was a disputed post. Any help ???? Thanks for the link. I also believe D.Doyle has a wealth of knowledge, but I have bumped the thread, and questioned the basis of his statement. Will be interesting and informative, I hope

Where did you get the rebuild kit and how much for one?

I dutifully bought the 1 3/4 inch wheel cylinders for the front of my M54 and upon teardown and inspection, I thought the ones on the truck are bigger. After checking with one of the large parts dealers in the Midwest, they told me that they put 2's on their trucks when doing a rebuild.

Bottom line is that my truck came with the 2's on the front and with the size of the truck it doesn't seem like a bad idea to have all the brake you can get. The chances of the front end locking up on that truck and swaping ends seems pretty minimal.
