Today I found that my transmission cooler lines are disconnected and the holes plugged. Even though I have been driving this truck for almost 2 years, I just noticed it today. It's always had issued in shifting from 2nd to drive but I assumed the tube going from the vaccum to the hydrostatic shifter had a leak somewhere. Now I'm not sure. Both holes have standard plugs in them.

Anyone know if this was common. I'd never heard of it before.

Got a second issue I'll do a second post on.

Thanks for any info.

Is it plugged at the transmission? or are the holes plugged in the radiator and do the lines possibly run to a cooler?
I have my radiator plugged but I'm thinking about re- routing the lines to run back thru the radiator, because the oil may stay too cold or cooler than it should be without warming it up some in the radiator for the winter months. I have the radiator bypassed and am using an ac unit for a cooler. I know your oil shouldn't get too hot but can it stay too cold? Hopefully we can find out what the best temp for trans fluid. Has anyone installed a temp gauge?

It's plugged at the transmission. The lines are still there just d/c'd. It also appears the fitting they would thread into was taken out when they put the plugs in.

The only reason I can think of for disconnecting the lines would be that there is a leak and they didn't want to fix it. I think I would check the lines to see if they weren't rubbing and worn thru somewhere. I do think that running without any cooling of the fluid is likely to cause overheating. What condition is your fluid? I would service the transmission and reconnect the lines after I cleaned them out. There are some products that attach to the lines and clean them that probably would show a leak also if one is not obvious.

My vote is for this. When i got my 1008 there was some pretty hokey fix's on it that made me say wtf?
Change the fluid and filter, hook them up and hope for the best.
If they do leak, rather than bend up a new line, i have used compression fittings. But if it was totally mangled or missing, start bending and flaring.
