Need Radiator for Case loader- stolen

Hey Guys,
Well, I moved the Town of Winnsboro's loader for use by the RR Museum in moving all our old railroad ties on Sat. It was sitting down by the quarry, hidden from view for weeks. As soon as we moved all our equipment up the line to a new loading point, which is right out in the open, next to a major road, they got hit.

The loader, and our backhoe were vandalized sometime between Sat night, and Tuesday afternoon. The backhoe was almost completely disassembled on the front end to get the radiator and cooler out. We had a rented sunbelt forklift there too, but all they did to that was hit the radiator with a hammer to find that it was aluminum, so they left it alone after that.

Cops said they know who did it, the've been arrested numerous times but let go everytime. Well, this time they did it to town property, and we have another ace up our sleeve. Messing with a railroad that is part of the national system is a FEDERAL OFFENSE. We busted some guys about 10yrs ago stealing crossties from our line, and they wound up in the fed pen. So if the locals catch them, they will go with federal charges.

They were quick, sawzawed the hoses, and were out of there. Took the batteries and cables too.

Anyway, we have to find a radiator and hydraulic cooler for the loader to fix it for the city.

1985 Case model MW24C. NSN 3805-01-150-4814. If anyone happens to have or have a lead on the radiator and cooler availible, please let me know.

Oh yeah, they even pumped out all the diesel out of everything...

You might try calling the recyclers in your area to see if the radiator has shown up. Something that size might stand out. Maybe the police will get lucky and catch them with the stuff.

I hope they do get the thieves and charge them with the stiffest penalty allowed.

I am wondering about that loader on the trailer. How tall was it and is it chained down well?

PB would have a **** fit if he saw that! i only see on chain in the back! Should have at least 4 chains securing it on.

I had already started pulling chains off when I thought to take a pic with my phone. You can still see one of the chains under the belly. I had two on the front, two under the belly, and 3 on the rear.

Yes, the museum's insurance will cover the damage, I just need to locate replacement parts. We are going to call Cat and have them come and get the backhoe and put it back together- I don't want to tackle it, as I would constantly be running back and forth to the Cat parts counter as I discovered something new missing or broken.

Our track man (Phil, red shirt in pictures) called the scrap yards, they said the police had called them with the same discriptions moments before. Even the names of the suspects.

Overall height was 14ft 4in. Local power and cable companies were called in advance, nothing on the route less than 16ft. I also had an overheight and overwidth permit. I had taken the flags off the trailer so I didn't break them unloading the loader.

I only asked, because I care. I do believe you are smart enough to do things right and ask for advise when in doubt.

Maybe there are parts for the loader, in the Federal/Military parts surplus? Is there a way to look the radiator there?

Oh I know, I only took it as such. I've seen lots of people do things the wrong way. I would rather you ask how I had done it so that I could learn the right way if I had happened to do it the wrong way, then continue to do it the wrong way until something happened. I passed a road grader on a truck yesterday, and he didn't have it tied down right, the front steer axle and blade were hanging all the way off the pass side of the trailer! He was off the shoulder when I saw him, but you could tell it had come off at speed.

I will have to find a TM for it, so that I can find the part number for the radiator and cooler.

Good idea on the fed surplus, might be able to buy it cheap through our state surplus if I find one. I know that they are surplusing loaders of this type right now, so finding parts isn't out of the question. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've found the part number for the radiator- NSN 2930-01-179-8150 manufacturers number E299000.

Called Case, apparently they are totally remaning these units for the military, so all the parts are readily availible. Just hoping to find a cheaper one if possible.

I'll keep my eyes open for one Adam, we don't have many of those type Case loaders at work.

Good thing they didn't try and snag the one out of the 818.

If insurance is going to pay for it then why are you sweating it? Just let Case install one from their inventory and the insurance company will pay it.

Because of our time frame for removing the old ties (local environmental agency is on us with a deadline) we will probably have to fix it before the insurance pays out, so we will have to buy the parts.

Also looking incase the insurance weasels out of it.

The M818 and other trucks I pick up for guys are at the museum proper, well lit and regularly patrolled.

We got the cat backhoe repaired, to the tune of 7k. The case is still just sitting. The county guy 'thinks' he knows were there is a cheap radiator for it, but I don't think he has done anything about checking into it.

They did catch them, 12 guys total. Caught one in a church, stealing the A/C and electrical wire. He ratted out the rest. They had been robbing old cars and churches and abandoned businesses for awhile.

Went to the hearing for the 'ringleader' and they were going to give him 9k bond. We (the museum) asked to speak to the judge, told her that messing with a RR is a federal crime, showed her the statutes, and she nodded. Changed it to 90k CASH, and told his lawyer that it was going to be handled by the FBI and federal court. Both his and the defendant's jaws hit the floor! hahahahaha serves you right bastard.

That's good to hear they were caught. I hope they pay for their stupidity, for a long, long time. Glad you(museum) went to court and it made a difference.

Damm I didn't see this sooner.

Case has a rebuilding center at Ft McCoy where they strip down the MW2$C's and totally rebuild them. In the past when my unit has been up there they have really helped us out with parts, and if you call, since it is a museum, they may be willing to sell or donate a good used take-out.
