250 Cummins manual shutoff!

Howdy all, I have been wondering if anyone knows of or has a part number to switch the 24v fuel shut off to a manual shut off. I would think they would have a part that might fit this motor used in generators. It would be nice to keep the motor running with out battery power and also on the 400 cummins the solenoid has been notorious for being faulty. Any ideas?

just turn in the over ride screw on the back, then use the emg. shut down with a spring return "WWs idea"

While it is fairly easy enough to screw in that screw, it really sucks when the engine 'just shuts down' on you without warning. Argh.
I have had that solenoid burn out TWICE on me so far.
And I no longer HAVE the manual/emergency shut down valve because it's rod was bent and was leaking.

I am looking for the source of the emergency shut down valve for one of my friend's trucks. I would like to bypass the electric shutoff too. It is a real problem if you are trying to pull start an 800 series with DEAD batteries. I know about the screw in the front of the solenoid, it ain't that easy to get at if you are older than dirt. I bought the manual shut off valve from Boyce a year or so ago, wasn't cheap though.

You could probably reposition the electric valve up a little to provide better access by adding some tubing.

I've thought about the same thing, but instead of using a spring to return the valve to "open", I thought about putting another adjustable stop on the cable. It would push the valve open when you push the emergency stop handle back in.

that emg. shut down valve is nothing special, I would guess any on/off valve could be put in the line

I guess im going to just pull mine off and see what fits like Ron I guess is suggesting. It cant be that difficult right! Mine is working right now just a pain to try and run it with out batteries installed. Also trying to elminate things that have had problems with in the past. I just figured someone would/might know of a part number off like a genset that would fit directly. Thanks for the ideas!

all cummins gen sets will have the electric shut down valve, it is part of the emg. shut down system for low oil pressure, over heat, and some over rev., again to run without battiers, turn in the override,( this keeps the valve open) and use the emg. shut down pull handle, you can use ANY on/off valve in place of the OM one, any place above the IP, before the fuel line gets to the head

There are a lot of cable control, and solenoid control valves available in the racing market. The problem is, they're not cheap.

Here is an example of a cable control valve: Shut Off Valves

You can sometimes find them used a lot cheaper, but like everything else, no warranty.

I was going to post a link to a used one (not an auction) but when it sells, it will become a dead link.
