I noticed they listed close to 500 hardtops back in july and quickly cut the number back to 120 as not to flood the market. I wonder how many deuce parts are still squirreled away.
Hey, Fredo, how do you know they pulled them to keep from flooding the market? Did they post a big sign? Send out a "We are afaid of flooding the market." email?

OK folks. I know there is no shortage of conspiracy theorists but take a look around the auction world. Ebay is more the exception, not the rule. Many online auction sites have some kind of dynamic bidding. GL's is based on a 15 minute time extension, some are 1 minute, two minute etc.

When I buy, I try to use sites with definite closing times. When I sell, I like to use sites with dynamic bidding. However, if you are going to buy MVs at auction, GL is the only show in town. As we grunts used to say when things got bad "It's going to suck. It will always suck. The key to keeping your sanity is to embrace the suck and drive on!"

When you go to a spot bid auction and bid shoulder to shoulder with others they don't close the bidding at a fixed time. They close it when no one will top the last bid. That is the norm in auction-land. Again, Ebay is NOT the norm.

The thing that irks me with bidders on GL has to do with the rocket scientists who wait until there are two minutes left to up the bid. If I could figure out how to reach through the screen to give them a Three Stooges style "dope slap" I would.

For some items I put in my max bid and walk away but particularly when there are a number of items of which I would willingly buy any of them, then the last minute morons can really cause me heartburn. Still it is the way we must play the game.

Embrace the suck!

Ebay is the oddball with how the auction ends at an exact time.
All other auctions end when the auctioneer is no longer receiving bids.
The reason for waiting till near the end of the auction to place your bid
is to limit the amount of time that people have to consider if they are willing to pay more than you.

I would rather give you 15 minutes to think about it than give you 3 days to raise the bid.

This is enlightening:

  1. POSTED TIMES: For internet auctions, posted closing times and displays of current time on our website are approximate. In addition, we reserve the right to close early or extend Internet auctions at our discretion. Lots may be scheduled to close individually, in groups or entirely. Lot closing times will be advertised prior to the opening of the Internet auction. At the scheduled closing time, the lots with active bidding will remain open for 15 minute increments until all bidding has ceased. You may participate during this time by entering from "My Auctions."
I find clause useless:

You agree that any dispute between the parties must be resolved under Arizona law and in a court located in Maricopa County, Arizona. You expressly agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts to resolve any dispute, and you expressly agree not to contest that jurisdiction or venue. You also agree to accept service of process from such courts by certified or registered mail.

If the item is in your state, and GL has employees in the state (like in PA) then you can ignore this. They do business in PA they are bound by PA law.

So, who here has actually SUED GL? I see a lot of talk about how angry people get... but anyone pay the small claims court fee and force them to appear?

These guys (GL) are not idiots. They are there to make money. It's their stuff to sell and they will do what is necessary to make the most profit. They don't care if you're offended by their rules because someone else (not just SS members either) is standing in line with cash.
Exactly, that's how capitalism works. If you don't like it, don't buy from them, if enough people don't buy from them they'll have to change their rules.

This post should serve as a warning to n00bs on GL.

Just cause it doesn't say it doesn't run, doesn't mean it runs.

Just cause it says it ends in 3 minutes doesn't mean it actually ends in 3 minutes.

Just because you paid for something doesn't mean you can go pick it up on monday.

Gosh...those are some harsh words for the last minute bidders (which I frequently am)!:shock:

Here's how I work. I look at an item and get a general idea what I think it's worth...to me.
Then I just sit back and watch and let the minimum bidders and low ballers have at it until the end is near. If the current bid is too high for me I just walk away...if not...

I don't want to post my high bid up front, nor do I want to auto bid...I want to bid like the "shoulder to shoulder" bidding you referenced. When my limit is reached I quit! Also...I have bought several trucks for several hundred dollars LESS than my max bid would have been if posted up front. (I still have the willys about auto bid...but that's another story)

I don't consider myself a moron I just know how I like to operate, nor do I have any hard feelings about the way others bid etc.

i may complain when my deuces arrive and there is forklift damage or its been looted while awaiting my euc, but at the end of the day ill remind myself that i just bought two 6x6 diesel monster trucks for less money than i recently spent on one honda atv.... gl could probably open the bidding at $1,500 on all deuces and still sell them... they could charge hidden fees, higher comission etc etc... deuce or other mv, we should all be grateful that we have been lucky enough to own such an awesome truck for pennies on the dollar...

Papabear, what I'm refering to is that the auction will be extended for 15 minutes from the "last minute" bid. If the last minute bidder had bid 14 minutes before the closeing time we would get to the same result with less time spent. I don't think it would change the price. It gets really, really aggravating when the same bidder does it two or three times in the same auction for the same item.

Lance

EDIT: Your right P-bear. There I was telling folks to accept things they can't change and I didn't want to accept things I can't change. I guess I need to read my own post......

In reference to Arizona law, that is where their computer servers are registered as being located, as well as their 'headquarters' (home office, etc.). Many corporations are chartered in Delaware or South Dakota because of certain aspects of their corporate law are more favorable than in other states. GL chose Arizona, and we have to live with that!

If you do some research I think you'll find that many SMALL CLAIMS and higher courts are pretty tired of Corps hiding behind these type of 'agreements'. First, they deny the citizen of a State every right that their State grants them with regards to consumer protection and small claims. Second, if the damage occurs in PA, and the Corp has employees/business presence in PA, the courts are INCREASINGLY frowning on the fact that the litigation must occur in a place far, far away. Evidence has to be moved, testimony has to be in the lesser preferred written statement vs in person testimony (and cross examination), putting all that expense on the plaintiff vs simply having the defendant show up at their own business place and have full access to witnesses and evidence.

Plus a judge can still agree to rule USING Arizona statutes and precedents but still do it in PA as long as they are not very far removed from PA law.

If GL loses a small claims court case the 'winner' still has to collect (good luck with that.... I've gotten several judgments and none have ever been satisifed.. and not for lack of trying... easier to write it off at tax time) and GL can still appeal to (in PA) Superior court claiming venue and all that other stuff.

None of this is cast in stone, but small claims is pretty straightforward and the judges don't **** around.

Lastly.. a contract is generally, at best, up to interpretation at all times. So just becuase you checked the 'I agree' box does not strip you of any/all recourse to become 'whole'.

Here is another way to 'splain it:

One way a court can claim personal jurisdiction is known as "minimum contacts," which refers to the fact that a business or person with sufficient contacts with a particular state can be dragged into court there even though they don't live in that state or base their business there. Usually, any substantial presence in the state will justify personal jurisdiction -- for example, if a business regularly solicits business in the state, derives substantial revenue from goods or services sold in the state, or engages in some other persistent course of conduct there.

Also note PA has a 'Long Arm Statute':

This is a funny GL condition:

You also agree to accept service of process from such courts by certified or registered mail.

hahaha If they want to sue you they make it in their favor (generally you are served in person) but that would cost them $$$$.

The GL 'agreement' is full of holes... its so lopsided in their favor, you have to give up all your rights, and for what? The chance to give them money? hahahahaha

Standard boilerplate. A decent attorney will blow this out of the water.

Question is, are you that mad at GL to fork over a $5k retainer for a $1500 truck or $150 trailer?????
