I have decided to overhaul my 10K winch and have found numerous sources for winch seal kits and brake bands but I have not found a source for gaskets. Does anyone know of a source for the gaskets needed for such a project or do you always reuse the existing ones. The only other option I can think of is making your own but I would rather purchase them.

I re-used them. Carefully cleaned them, trimmed the tattered edges with a razor blade, applied a thin coat of silicone to each surface, and re-assembled it.

I found why I could not get it into "free-wheel". That side was half full of water and when outside, along about this time of year, its a little thick! How water got into it, is a mystery - before I got the truck.

Contact Memphis Equipment. Pull the nsn #'s of the ones you need from the tm before you call. Not the cheapest source but they will usually have what you need.

Use gasket paper and a ball-pein hammer to make gaskets. Use the ball end end of the hammer to carefully tap around the profile of the housing and into bolt holes while firmly holding the paper in place. Once paper is tapped into bolt holes, it helps hold the paper in place while you finish the making of the gasket.

This is what I do. More times than not you ruin the old gaskets when you take the winch apart. You also sometimes have to add more than one thickness to get the bearing preload right.
