idea - directory/map of surplus and vehicle dealers

I had an idea while I was tinkering around with finding dealers for ALICE pack parts I needed recently - why not have a place on the website with a directory or map of surplus dealers, stores, mail order places, MV dealerships, etc., that could be added to by anyone? It used to be that every town had an army/navy store, but now, with as much as some of us travel, it would be great to get a list of surplus or MV stores in the areas we travel to. Just an idea.

I know it's a long shot, especially since we already have a similar idea with the member map and NOTHING EVER HAPPENS TO UPDATE IT TO THE NEW SITE. So in all probability, even if everyone likes my idea, the chances of it ever going anywhere with current site support are slim to none.

And Slim just left town. So maybe Stretch can help.

We could continue to use the existing map. Just add more colors to the pins to represent the various types of locations.

If Slim, None or Stretch can't do it, Someone will.

This can be done on google maps. Anybody can create it, make it public and share the link.

Even if there was no map, a directory of suppliers and dealers with name, address and phone number with internet site and email contact info would be awesome.

Did anything ever come of this? The wife and I are on a trip to california and have been looking for surplus places to stop at but have only found a few, here is one that was in Stanton, Tx they were closed though, we are going to stop by on our way back

If you get to the San Diego area, try to stop in to Murphy's Surplus Warehouse in El Cajon. GPS 32.799448, -116.970803, 300 block of North Johnson Ave. Not a lot of green stuff there but lots of electronics.
