Diesel my friend, my M1008 does not like gas so well.... It is not nearly that good on fuel either, neither are my two M1009s. Glen

Glad you like it I also have the M1009 axles om my 1008 not by choice but they work. Im still working out some stuff and havent checked the MPG yet. I still need to adjust my shift points. at hwy speeds it just chuggs along at low rpm real nice. when i get it right i will install the TINY TAC too watch rpms and fill up the tank and take my gps to cross check the speedo i dont think mines right.
The 3.08s are fine for me but i had some trouble trying to climb some stuff before in 2wd it would just bog down the motor 4wd not a problem

my best guess as to why your not getting as good MPG in the winter is that all of your fluids (oil, trans, and anything else that lubs moving parts) is cold and thicker, therefore it's taking more energy to move them. Theoretically the denser air should make you get better mileage, but I don't think that's happening with everything else working against you.
Personally, I'm just thrilled when my truck starts each morning =P I'm a little worried that I'm going to wear my starter out in this cold weather...
