What years 6.5 turbos can be used ? I have a 85 M1028 that I would like to put a turbo in . Did the 6.2 diesel ever have a turbo from factory. I dont know much about the diesel motors history. Looking to replace the motor with a 6.2 or 6.5 turbo

as far as I know the 6.5 parts will bolt to the 6.2
There are aftermarket turbos for the 6.2 (Banks)
also look for the exhaust manifolds for a HMMWV with turbo. they have better flow.
Good luck

93 - 99 6.5TD's (up 2002 in 3500HD) will all work on 6.2's. The 6.2's never came from the factory with turbos, but the Banks kit was dealed installed from '89 - '92. The '93 - '94 GM-3 turbo will work as is because it has a spring actuated wastegate controller set at around 6psi. The later ones has a vacuum actuated controller and needs to be replaced with a spring loaded controller (available from Kennedy Diesel, SS Diesel Supply and others for around $100) Those controllers will require a boost gauge because you have to set boost level, because they are adjustable. The later turbos like the GM-8 flow a little better and make a little more power. If you keep the boost at 10 psi or less, water temp below 230, and the EGT's below 1100 degrees, they'll live long heathy lives.

Thank's 67__C-30 another question. If I would want to take a 6.5 turbo off a engine would it fita? It seems to me that the crossover in the back of the motor would interfer with the cab. I am guessing that is the cross over .Or would it be better to find a banks turbo?

Yes they will fit. The 6.5 crossover pipe gets a close to firewall, but it stays pretty tight to the block. Here's a video of 6.5 set up in this body trucks. The 6.5 turbo sounds so sweet on these engines!
