Tire Valve Extensions - OK to Use ?

Those inner stems are a pain to get to. Saw some 4" and 6" extensions at NAPA.

Can I put these on for permanent installation ? Or would it just be better to buy one and rotate it to each tire as needed ?

I dunno if it's the salt up here, or just dirt in general, but I absolutely will recommend against anything that is "self sealing". That type doesn't seal well after a short time and actually will cause leaks. If it's got a proper valve core or "valve core pushing mechanism" to reuse the original valve core, and most particularly will accept a proper metal valve stem cap, then yes they are quite acceptable for perminant use.

On the other hand, I had them on and ended up with inner flats. They can flop around and loosen up causing leakage. I won't use them again. 50/50, your choice.

Good thread. Question: What could one use to extend and change the direction of the OUTER tire's valve stem?

My setup is that I've got a regulator at the cab air supply and I just set my air hose with the clip on chuck on the stem and walk away. That's not hard to do with the inners as-is, but it's really difficult to get the chuck on the outers because of the direction they're pointing.

Flexible Braided Wire Valve Extension

That looks like it might work if it's flexible enough to make it into an S rather than an L.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have these on the inner duals of my semi truck. They work pretty good and I haven't had any problems with them (other then below). But I also don't run it in the mud and rocks so I don't know how well they would take that kind of abuse.

If you use something like those above I do have a couple of tips. First, it's easier to put them on when you have the outer wheel off. Second, make sure they attach to the valve stem properly. I had mine installed when I had a tire shop put on the outer duals on the truck. A week later I tried to check the tire pressure of all the tires and the guage indicated 0 psi on one of the inners. The hose did not connect properly and I had to pull the outer tire off to fix the proper. So if you install them check for a pressure reading before you mount the outer tire in place.

Thanks. I'm more interesting in something that will help me put a clip-on chuck on the outers, tho.

Maybe a flexible extension that will clip onto one of the holes in the rim so the valve is now pointing parallel to the wheel?
