Antisipation of GL Auction Items

Greeting everyone. First post but went through the first 7 pages of posts in the CUCV section last weekend, it took more that a few minutes to say the least.

There is an enormous amount of information at SS and would like to thank all that contributes so that those that follow will have an easier time. I hope that I may have something to contribute in the future.

My question:
I've been watching the GL site and was wondering if there was a source that could be tapped to see what is coming up for auction before being posted at the GL site.

The last CUCV auction in Indy was posted a week before it went live. Indy is an unmaned site so the guy from the Lockbourne Ohio site has to drive over here for people to preview. All in all I feel like it's rushed. Granted, that was my first GL Auction participation, I hope that that was the exception rather than the rule.

I take it by your answer that there is no resource for a pre-pre-view.

Welcome to the site! Don't mind Westech, he's always cranky with the new guys.

Items coming up for bid hit the site a few weeks to a few months before the auction starts. Other than having a real good source on the inside there is no way to find out (that I have found) what's coming up next.

If you have access to a certain base/DRMO/GL site you could always look through the fence and guess, but sometimes DRMO, shipping, supply will share a parking area so that doesn't always work.

My suggestion is SEARCH, read, search and read some more. If you really can't find an answer, ask. Just know that some folks have a low tolerance for newbieness. :)

Again - welcome and good luck - your wallet needs it.

Yeah pretty much the only way you find out about lots before they appear on GL is if you talk to the guy running the base / pickup area you want to inquire about. Some may tell you of things coming up and some may not. I would guess that pretty much all of them do not want phone calls asking this, but if you're there picking up it makes OK small talk.

Drmo sends stuff to a "lot". It sits there while dnr, fire houses, cops, etc pick out what they want. Once nobody wants it, it goes to "Joe" public to bid on. It then gets listed on GL. They usually list it and auction it right away. Otherwise it is not income, it is an expense.

Go to the GL website to the drop down menue under Event Calender.

It will have all the sales listed and when they start/stop.

You can watch that and sometimes you will see items before they show up on the Locations page.

Other than that, making friends with GL lot personel is the other option.

They will generaly not let you inspect an item until it has been lotted and is going on the block.

But........if you happen to be inspecting something on a current auction you can scope out what is waiting to be photographed and lotted.

I called the guy running the yards close to me the other day and asked if he had any of a particular truck coming up for auction in the near future and he said no. I kept it short, but I have bought a lot of things through his yards, so he knows who I am.

If you hack around on the DLA/DRMS website: https://www.drms.dla.mil/rtd03/index.shtml you can roughly figure out what is up for donation/transfer. If nobody picks the item during the screening period, it goes to GL. It is a pain to constantly visit this site so I just wait for things to show on GL. For the most part, 90% of this goes to GL anyway.

A word of warning GL does not accomodate its customers the crews running the loadout sites for the most part are really good but corporate does things that make things easier for them not the customer.

I have found that a box of doughnuts applied liberally to local GL personnel will grease the skids and buy you a lot of good will. :grd:

Not that I am advocating bribery of a government representitive.

Sounds like you're advocating the bribery of a contractor.

Thanks for all the replies!
A buddy of mine was headed south on 74 from Indy a couple weeks ago and saw 30+ MV's... needless to say I got a little excited at the prospect.
Geuss I'll just keep watching the GL site for now. I surly ain't gonna waist donuts on strangers.
Dug, Westech just needs a bag of Funyuns and an RC cola. ;-)

A RC Cola and a Moonpie sound pretty good right now!

Good luck in your hunt. I look forward to seeing your posts about - Why is my EUC taking so long?

Oohhh, don't say that! I would prefer a topic titled: "How to anticipate future GL sales and beat them at their own game".

Andrew comes over from WPAFB, not Lockbourne.

Just and FYI.

Good guy to work with but don't let him hear I told you so.
