With a new gasket in hand the plan is to pull the compressor, put a straight edge on the base and have it smoothed out if necessary. I'll report the results when complete.

This is killing me. We have 6 - 9 inches of snow coming today and I can't go play! Wahhhh.

Thanks everyone.

Problem solved.

Both short ends of the compressor were bowed downward. We double gasketed it and used a very, very small amount of sealant on the mating surfaces and between the gaskets. We were very careful not to block the oil holes. Upon final assembly we put a thin coating off sealant on the exterior of the gaskets.

The leak is gone. Thanks everyone.

Glad you got it fixed. If it was me i would have replaced the compressor to aviod any problems in the future. I wonder why the compress bowed downward like that?

Thanks.

I thought about replacing the compressor but the compressor is 100% functional so I figured stick with it.

I wonder why the compressor bowed downward like that?
I guess factors which contributed to the bowing are...

  1. The compressor is aluminum.
  2. Heating and cooling how many times over how many years? Maybe it overheated?
  3. The bolts are closest on the short ends of the compressor so that is where the majority of the clamping force is.
Or maybe my compressor just wanted out but the bolts wouldn't let it. She's stuck with me now.
