Hey Guys, Im New To The Site And To The Deuce First Off. Im Looking At Buying A Deuce With The Herc. Turbo Motor And Today I Was Able To Start It And Hear It Run. The Guy Who Currently Own's The Truck Has Two (One w/w and one w/o). The One Im Interested In Was Idling Very Low (Like 500rpm or lower) But Was Staying Running On Its Own. If I Held The Accelerator Down To Get It In The 800-1000rpm Range And Then Pressed On The Pedal It Had Plenty Of Power, Its Just Idling Low. Any Clues As To What This Is? Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

Thanks

you are able to adjust the idle.. there is a set screw. Other things to think of.... was it cold? was it warmed up to temp? how are the fuel filters? Kinda hard to diagnose over a Post on a forum but does not sound out of line. The best thing to do is Get hold of the TM's (repair and operating manuals) and read them before you buy one. Don't jump in to it and ask every single question that pops in your head and hair brained idea. If you read the TM's a lot of your questions will be answered and you will know more on operating and maintaining the truck.

Welcome and happy VD day I mean V day.

What everyone said. No big deal on the low idle. You just have to adjust the throttle cable (2 minute process) to have it idle b/w 800-900.

O boy.. you do NOT adjust the idle by playing with the cable.... there is a set screw and it takes less then 30 seconds to do it the correct way.

Is it me or do most of the guys here NEVER read or look at the TM's and are just flying by night?

Thanks For The Responses!
The Weather Here Was Sunny And In The Mid 50's, So I Dont Really Think That Was An Issue. As For The Condition Of The Fuel Filters, I Have No Clue. Willing To Bet They Need To Be Changed. The Fuel (Diesel) I'm Also Willing To Bet Was Old And Could Use To Be Drained And Re-filled. We Ran The Truck For Approximately 30mins. So It Was Definitely Warm, And Any Issue The Would Have Occured Due To The Truck Being Cold I'm Sure Would Had Been Resolved. And Like I Said Previously, The Low Idle Was Not Stalling The Truck, I Just Knew They Were Supposed To Idle Around The 800-1000 Range And Was Looking For Clues As To Why It Wasn't And How To Get It There.
Thanks Again

nk14zp Thanks For The Link, I'm Sure I Will Be Needing All This Information

tm 9-2320-361-20 or tm 9-2320-209-20 if memory serves me
adjust the set screw on the fuel control lever on the injection pump.
there are 2 setscrews. one is under a sealed cover, it is for max rpm adjustment.
the other one is accessible, that's your idle screw.
loosen locknut, adjust RPMs, tighten locknut
the correct idle speed is on a little tag on the injection pump, 825-850RPM for most LDT engines

Welcome to the site Sbred. The info you seek should be in the IP tm. Gonna be in your neck of the woods for Thunder this year, you going?

It's pretty much so you. It's all about attitude.

Example: You're on a computer. I have personally invested in over 2000 books on computers. Wanna read them?
