I am wondering what you guys are paying to have the head decked (flattened) and for valve job repairs on your multi-fuel.

I am starting to find out who does this locally and needed some idea of how much I should be paying for it.

Thanks.

about $150 for 2 heads if the valve cups don't need to be cut. If the cups get cut it is $100 more in Johnstown, NY. Glad you know you have to get the heads planed to make the new head gaskets last. You will be happy. If you you cut the cups way in it will lower your compression ratio and you might be able to turn up the fuel to gain boost and have a Hot Rod Deuce like one of mine. Just kiddin' around. JT out

I may just buy new heads and put them on. The engine has been a strong performer even while handicapped.

It was up to 70 here today and just right for working on the truck. That is why I was in the court house.:-(

I forgot to add: The mechanics doing the head work are race car builders. Locally, they are known for the quality of their work and the speed of the engines they build. Recently, they have built a number of diesel engines for tractor pulls around the country. But, they are really old friends and jumped at the chance to do the job. Unbelievable machinists.

$45 each, doubt you would need valve work, just fill the ports with solvent and check for leak. put the plugs in your self, it's very easy.

copper? maybe copper plated, but not copper. what you really want to find is stainless steel, but just steel ones will last for 30+ years.

I paid $210 for both of mine... decked, freeze plugs, and valves reset in the seats. A thing to remember per the TM... you can only deck the heads two times and a total of .004 also if you take .003 off the heads you have to grind the valve seats the same... The valves must not get any closer to the piston.

How do you tell if they have been decked before? Mine has 1991 Tooele rebuild stickers on it.
