Not bragging but I pull started a Deuce with my gas 460ci Ford F350 with automatic so I don't see the big deal there for a Duramax to do what a well used truck can easily do. I even had 430 ratios in it for increased road speed which drops the capability of hauling greatly, so what would be the whoopi factor for a Durmax.

A compact industrial engine offered in a civilian truck with more than 1,000 more rpm available, over 200hp more and anyone want to talk about the mountain of torque over stock multifuel? Oh, and it'll prolly double the fuel milage of that 460. The '03 I had got 18mpg pulling 11,000 lbs. --Probably that type of 'whoopi factor.'

'industrial'? i think that may be a stretch... the Ford 6.0 was offered in med duty trucks with higher GVWRs than the D-max Kodiaks (IIRC?), and even I wouldn't call the 6.0 'industrial'.

anyway - any modern (or previous 3 generations) diesel over 3.8 liters would be a significant improvement over the MF. i say, if you got the equipment, then go for it. a D-max with modern auto would be a sweet platform to put in a deuce. i think you'll find there are significant OAL fitment issues, but that's my standard drum beat. :deadhorse:

Just a side note: Running an Allison does not mean you have to run a Duramax. There are Cummings to Allison adapters and flexplates available in the aftermarket. I have read a couple of different articles in which a Ford Super Duty has been outfitted with a Cummins and an Allison. Just some info... :)

Mudguppy...I wouldn't even bring the 6.0 up after the trillion engine recall. 8)

M880 Unimog...I know the Cummins is super popular but if you look at the results for the big dyno shootouts in the diesel magazines you'll see the Cummins getting edged by the Duramax 9 time out of 10. You also see a lot more of them hurt or losing a gasket too. I'm not bashing them, just making a comparison.

One another note- did anyone recognize that IP on the mechanically driven Duramax from the youtube post? I know the smaller pump on the side is Bosch as it's virtually visibly identical to the fuel pump on certain Unimog engines so I'd hazard a strong hunch its a bosch some-or-other...
