I thought 83 was first year?
The first year of manufacture was fall of 1983, however it was a 1984 as this is how the auto industry works. The model years were 1984-1987 and manufacture dates 83-86. There were no 1987 made in 1987 that is know off likely due to the factory shut down for the new 1988 model year design to re-tool the plants.

If he has a CUCV, it would be a 84,85,86 or 87. My guess is that it is a 1984, but if it is a 1982, then it is a clone.

the title says 82 its not a clone it has the right interior and all it has the typical chevy rust ha
Do you have any pics of the interior or data plates? Would be really cool if you some how ended up with an early pre-production model.

Here is how the VIN will be for a CUCV, you should check these to confirm your truck. When ever anyone buys a vehicle one should always make sure the title VIN matches the vehicles VIN before purchase.
---

Either a "H" or "G" at the 4th digit to identify the weight class. The "G" is for the M1008 and "H" is M1028, M1010 and M1031.

Your VIN should also have a "D" as the 5th digit to identify military vehicle and the 6th will be a 3.

The 8th digit will have "J" for the non-emissions J-Code engine used in the military trucks.

Check the 10th digit in the VIN, this will tell you the year.
C= 1982
D= 1983
E= 1984
F= 1985
G= 1986
H= 1987

If you have a 1982 truck, your 10th digit will have a "C" for 1982.

that vin is not correct, 3 rd character is wrong, but if the rest is right it should be an 82 4x2 6.2 diesel , regular cab. 1 ton single wheel. the 3rd character should be a c, b, or t. 5th charater should be a d if a military truck. if the plant code, -v- is correct might be a gmc originally
