On the CUCV FAQ this info was given as applied to the CUCV series in regards to the VIN.

11th digit = assembly plant
-- A = Lakewood
-- B = Baltimore
-- F = Flint
-- J = Janesville
-- V = GM Truck/Pontiac
-- S = St. Louis
-- U = Lordstown
-- 1 = Oshawa
-- 3 = GMad Detroit
-- 4 = Scarborough
Mine has an E in this location according to Government Liquidation. Every other one I have seen on gov liq. has an F. According to GMs 1984 VIN decoder E is the Linden plant in NJ.

Do you think GL made a typo or were some of these actually built there?

Any one else have a different plant type?

It's my understanding they were all built"assembled" at the Flint Truck and Bus assembly plant. I have never seen one that said otherwise. So my guess is its a typo by GL.. Do not trust the serial numbers on the GL site. I bought two trucks that had different serial numbers than listed.. It worked out because they were 1028's rather than M1008's:neutral:

When I get it in my possession I will let you guys know what the VIN really says. Will be very interesting if mine has the "E" in it.

I concur.

Angel said he didn't want anything written about him in a truck made outside of Michigan!

I was a layout inspector (skilled trades & 1 of 2 on second shift) at G.M. Truck & Bus Flint ASSY. at Van Slyke & Atherton Rd.s in Flint Michigan from 1983 thru 1988 & worked hand in hand with the govt. inspectors. They made p/u trucks on line 1 & blazers & suburbans on line 2. About every 10th job was a military job. They were pretty fussy about them & wanted to keep that govt. contract pretty bad. There was about 8,000 people working there. They only needed about 6,000 people to make the line run, but attendance was so bad that they had to employ 25% more than they needed, just to make sure they had enough people to make the lines run. People there had such a "I DON'T GIVE A SH!T" attitude that I was amazed when they would roll off of the final line & fire right up. (mostly) When the govt. inspectors would find something wrong....... everybody got busy all of a sudden. Little did I know, that it would be 26 years before I could own a military job.:shock: I was always under the impression that flint assy. built all the p/u & blazer cucvs. John

I remember the Truck and Bus new build storage lot was a see of green for a long time. In fact there were so many they would have to drive them in large groups to storage lots down Bristol road across from the plant. It was like a constant MV parade. Would love to see that again. The 'good old days'.

Yeh .. I guess they could be considered the "GOOD OLD DAYS". My youngest kid (hes 27) said one of his buddies is on a crew demolishing that plant right now. A 5,OOO,OOO square foot ASSY. plant... WOW... In the famous words of Bob Dylan..... THESE TIMES.. THEY ARE A CHANGING .  I guess it's a pistol packin neighborhood now, Shoot.... it wasn't all that great 26 years ago when flint was booming with employment. He said they're (G.M.) having a hard time keeping vandles from breaking in & stipping all of the copper out for scrap. so they're demolishing it all. John
