So my M1008 arrived today from Ft. Gordon. I had a guy from uShip.com bring it up here for me. He blew a tire on the trailer on the way and got a ticket on base for expired registration, but other than that it was uneventful. :p

So far the truck looks like it is in good shape. Very little rust at all on the frame and other components. On the body there is a hole in the cab corner and paint peeling in a couple of places, but it is in better shape than feared. The only expensive issue so far that GL of course didn't mention is that the back window is busted out. The rear tires look good, but the front need replaced.

I haven't started it yet because it has a stuck starter an I am too sick to work on it at the moment. Being outside in the rain didn't help. I will keep you updated!

Check the driveshaft for dents I just got a 1008 and so far I replaced the starter, did the doghead starter relay conversion, repinned and bushed the hinges on both doors, rebushed and adjusted the door striker pin, getting a new driveshaft made so I have been busy lately. Good thing is the truck has new alternators new GP solenoid all vacuum lines for the trans and shift module. Give your truck a good looking over maybe jack the front end up so you can check the king pins, drag link, and tie rod ends before driving it if not prepared a death wobble can put you into the ditch or worse.

Will do as soon as I am better. I have a lot of work to do around the farm with it before I can take it out on the road anyways.

So I checked it out some more today. I got the rear window replaced. I also found that it has the gun mounts next to the seats. the truck seems pretty complete. I thought I was missing troop seat legs and part of the frame for the canopy, but I found them in the bed. Can't wait until the weekend so I can work on it some more!

If that thing came out of 73D OD BN, some of my Soldiers and former Soldiers were stationed out there and probably used your truck. Jay ran the FTX site for the AIT Soldiers while there. I am surprised the whole truck is not blaze orange! FT Garbage requires you to have a blaze orange vest on to cross the street and crossing the street requires a six hour class, certification and an annotation on your 348. I always liked FT Gordon but they needed to fire every sorry a55 civilian and homesteading Soldier assigned there and assign some new blood! I reclassed there in 1993 and they had 30+ Jeeps in like new condition that DRMO cut up and sold as scrap metal. I was on night shift and used to hit the DRMO auctions and sales on a regular basis.

Jay told me that a 1008 he had was pulled from long term storage and had less than 200 miles on it when he signed for it in 2005.

The M1031 I bought did not require an EUC when I bought it. They classified it with the wrong demil code and later sent me the letter stating I needed to submit an EUC or they'd be coming for the truck. It went cheap becasue of the demil code assigned but I was able to get a SF-97 on it right away. The mistake was found about six months later and they only gave me a two week window to comply as I recall.
