I'm planning on leaving late friday afternoon on my first long road trip in the M920 to recover a M270A1 trailer From Jwaller. I have been trying to make this trip for over a week and a half but like the weather things change. It was actually for the best because I ended up having to relocate my hitch to fit the trailer. Was wondering if any SS members were near 95 between MD and Lexington SC just in case ? The truck has been gone over and runs like a top , I have done a few hundred miles locally with no issues. I'll have my daughter riding shotgun and we are both excited about the trip. I'll have extreamly limited internet thru my phone. Was hoping to land back in MD either late Sat or wee hrs on Sunday morning. Please PM if you think you will be around.

Thank you !
Jim

Ok off to a crazy start . Started the truck and had a oil leak fron the tach cable. Replaced the seal and seems good. If any of you ever do this be careful when reinstalling the copper line on the air compressor . It can rub the throttle linkage and give you a sticky throttle.

CAN the 5th wheel on the 920 able to handle the 270 king pin ???, I thought the 270 king pin was 2" and the 920 5th wheel was for a 3 1/5" king pin.

Jim,
I think this is to much for you to handle, the M920 is far to large a truck for your M270. Tell you what I'll do. Just stop driving and give up. I'll come take the ordeal off your shoulders out of the sheer goodness of my heart. As SS members I think we are sorta like brothers, and I just can't stand to see a brother suffer.

Talk about taking one for the team! You are one fine man Bighurt.
I wish I had friends like you. All that sacrifice for someone that you don't even know.

Too bad that driving the M920 from Maryland to North Dakota would probably cost you as much as a truck now that our National Energy policy is in full gear.

I'd also love to have a M920, just can't justify 25,000 lbs of truck sitting in the driveway. My neighbors would have a cow.

That's just the type of sacrifice I'm willing to make...

I'm just that kind of a guy...

Have a few pics. But didn't take any of when we were working.but got a nice picture of the $429.00 bill for ya.no tookand removed the slack adjusted after beating on it back and forth for a hr while using penatrating oil.found a neat trick.removed the 4 bolts that hold the s cam. Housingand beat it off with a hammer.cleaned the shaft and s cam shaft.had a ton of grease on them.took some sand paper and polished the shaft the broken spring was in the can u could just barely see it thru the hole. The the actuator shaft was also rubing the housing.replaced the can with a new unit.was at the patriot service center off of 217 north of richmond. So no hearsay going on here!! Caging it wasn't a option in my eyes with most of the trip still in front of us.

ah just cage it and put the tag down for the breaks ;) sounds like a fun trip, I too had a broken spring in one of my can's make it all the way home from LA to WA with it, never locked up thankfully, I will end up replacing all of them since it is evident that during depot rebuilds they do not replace them on all trucks.
